We have an opportunity for a Payroll & Benefits Specialist.


Job Summary:

The Payroll and Benefits Specialist reports to the Accounting Supervisor.

This position is responsible for the administration of payroll and benefits and supports the Accounting Department in the reporting and analysis of payroll and benefits related transactions and special projects.

The Specialist works in conjunction with the Human Resources Department to ensure employment standards, statutory requirements, and governmental legislation are met while following internal policies and procedures in accordance with the requirements outlined in Standard Operating Procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices.


Responsibilities:


  • Payroll processing for weekly Canadian (Ontario and Quebec) hourly and salaried payroll and biweekly U.S. hourly and salaried payroll
  • Ensure that all wages are paid accurately and in a timely fashion to all company employees, contractors, and other parties
  • Ensuring accuracy of data in the payroll software
  • Processing all payroll changes including salary rate changes
  • Processing yearly salary increases and bonuses payments
  • Benefits administration and changes/updates
  • Support internal reporting of payroll information, including (but not limited to) overtime, headcount, and employee entitlements
  • Payroll accounting activities, including (but not limited to) journal entries, GL reconciliations and analysis on payroll related transactions
  • Completing yearend processing, including EHT and WSIB reconciliations, distribution of T4's, and any other yearend tax forms
  • Preparing final payments and Records of Employment
  • Working with external agencies as required, including payroll and benefit audits and rebate programs
  • Act as Super User of the Ceridian / Dayforce platform; identify and lead system improvements
  • Respond to employee questions in a timely manner
  • Liaise with the Human Resources Department ensuring employment standards, statutory requirements, and governmental legislation are met while following internal policies and procedures
  • Administer various employee programs
  • Provide recommendations for continuous improvements and supports finance team for payroll related duties and or special projects as required

Qualifications:


Education

  • Postsecondary education in a field related to Accounting or Finance

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a payroll function
  • Knowledge of U.S. payroll legislation is an asset
  • Current knowledge on payroll, benefits and employment legislation
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel
  • Experience using Ceridian Dayforce is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential situations with high standards of ethics, transparency and accountability
  • Attention to detail with the ability to multitask
