Job purpose


Reporting to the Manager, Talent Acquisition the Volunteer Management Specialist leads the development of innovative and effective volunteer management practices and supports the capacity building efforts of the provision of sound volunteer management solutions.

Specialist, Volunteer Management builds and maintains the World Vision Canada volunteer base and is the central point for volunteer engagement & management.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Responsible for the management of the entire volunteer management cycle, including planning, recruitment, registration and due diligence, orientation & placement, identifying training needs, evaluation, recognition & retention and record keeping & reporting.
  • Recruit, onboard and assign volunteers for projects, events, campaigns, fundraising, office work, unpaid internships and other initiatives, as required
  • Evaluate all aspects of volunteer program, conducting research, finding resources, and proposing new ideas to help make informed and impactful decisions about the program.
  • Surveying departments to regularly assess volunteer needs and promote the use and integration of volunteers within department activities.
  • Create and maintain a volunteer resourcing plan for all World Vision Canada activities requiring volunteer support
  • Develop and maintain appropriate recruitment and onboarding collateral, including maintaining an uptodate, missionfocused onboarding presentation and designing basic visuals such as fliers.
  • Plan, develop and deliver volunteer training.
  • Ensure accurate and updated information about World Vision Canada's volunteer opportunities on World Vision Canada's careers site and all thirdparty websites.
  • Maintain accurate records and files* (i.e. volunteer policies, procedures, standards of conduct, etc.), and provide timely statistical data and activity reports.
  • Ensure the WVC volunteers act within compliance of all laws, regulations, and World Vision Canada procedures and policies.
  • Coordinate volunteer initiatives such as volunteer appreciation and the annual survey.

Qualifications:


  • Postsecondary education in a relevant field.
  • Experience in volunteer management is an asset.
  • Experience communicating with public audiences is an asset.
  • Knowledge of international development and Canadian charitable behavior is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate large teams.
  • Excellent public speaking, interpersonal, organizational, and team collaboration skills.
  • Easygoing and positive attitude.
  • Recruitment and onboarding experience.
  • Ability to act as a World Vision Canada brand ambassador.
