Reporting to the Dean, School of Health and Life Sciences, the Manager of Simulation and Learning Innovation is responsible for oversight of the simulation program in the School.

The Manager leads the ongoing development and operationalization of learning innovation related to the simulation program, virtual reality and other learning solutions as well as the strategic learning innovation to support academic programs.

The Manager brings professional practice and academic experience, systems expertise, creativity and initiative to this position with an expectation to support a high quality of simulated, virtual and augmented learning experiences in clinical education, and optimize resource utilization and partnerships in order to meet the College's strategic plan.

Access to reliable transportation and ability to travel to multiple campus locations is a requirement of this role.


Responsibilities:


  • Managing case development, revision, and delivery, establishing priorities and managing the workloads/assignments of the simulation specialist team involved
  • Making recommendations regarding the development, improvement, and growth of simulation and Standardized Participant (SP) Programs, in collaboration with the Deans, Health and Life Sciences
  • Marketing of simulation and simulated participant program to outside parties
  • Coordinating a simulation participant committee which drives quality improvement initiatives for simulated participants
  • Keeping abreast of activities in the world of simulated participants through membership in the Association of Standardized Patient Educators (ASPE) and networking with other simulated participant programs
  • Coordinating the planning, development, maintenance, and updates of quality improvement initiatives related to simulation and SP programs including direct observation and meeting regularly with the simulated participants, faculty and Chairs to inform of these initiatives
  • Acting as a point of contact for demonstrations and tours of the simulation centre
  • Developing, maintaining, and reviewing simulation specific guidelines, policies and procedures
  • Making recommendations regarding the development, improvement, and growth of simulation operations, in collaboration with Deans, Health and Life Sciences
  • Coordinating equipment and supplies required for external parties' usage of simulation environment
  • Collaborating with the external parties to determine scenario/case creation
  • Providing statistical data related to revenue generation program
  • Participating in the planning, development and execution of long and shortterm goals, initiatives, and partnerships, which support program performance and strategic plans related to learning innovation
  • Contributing to an environment of scholarship within the School, developing, managing or participating in scholarly and/or applied research projects related to learning innovation
  • Managing the human resources necessary to deliver simulated participant scenarios/cases for programs, both internal to the school of Health and Life Sciences programs and other College programs as required including contract maintenance, payroll, scenario/case training, performance feedback and scheduling within the parameters of College policies
  • Recruiting individuals to the SP roster in order to maintain appropriate demographic representation as required by the current library of cases, as well as those needed for developing cases
  • Supporting and training simulator operators within Health and Life Sciences
  • Executing and managing casual parttime contracts each semester for simulated participants as required
  • Developing and maintaining the simulated participant program budget, in collaboration with the Deans, Health and Life Sciences
  • Providing equipment recommendation for capital purchases to the Deans, Health and Life Sciences
  • Contributing to planning for facility enhancements with the Deans, Health and Life Sciences and managing the operational implications of projects within the simulation environment at all College locations
  • Providing oversight and liaison with vendors for the simulation AV platform
  • Modelling safe practices and taking action to correct situation(s) of unsafe practice
  • Ensuring follow through of safety practices in labs, apartments and simulation environments
  • Coordinating a regular tidying of office support areas, simulation labs, simulation storage, and general environment
