The Calgary Food Bank is the first line of emergency food support for families and individuals facing crisis.

As the city's main charitable food hub and the most accessible food bank we have the capacity to serve families, individuals, and organizations to fight hunger.


We ae currently recruiting a Communications Coordinator to join our Community Engagement team. Our Community Engagement team is responsible for Communications, Fund Development, Donations Processing, Events and Research.


The Communications Coordinator will work in collaboration to contribute to new communication ideas while executing on the priority communications needs for the Calgary Food Bank, both internally and externally.


Responsibilities:


  • Write, edit, factcheck and proofread materials for targeted audiences for external and internal purposes.
  • Reply, monitor, and engage with external audiences across social media platforms including google reviews and Volunteer Facebook page.
  • Provide and produce photography and video content for multiple audiences and platforms.
  • Responsible for gathering analytics for earned media and social media using platforms such as Meltwater and Hootsuite.
  • Website updates including program pages, job postings and blog posts.
  • Act as a point of contact for media requests, providing media relations support.
  • Provide onsite communications support at events, capturing photos, video, and quotes.
  • Assist with external fundraising or information pages as needed (Canada Helps, Charity Village).
  • Work directly with the Communications lead to achieve organizational communication goals, and maintain the brand, image, voice, and mission of the Calgary Food Bank.
  • Liaise with Calgary Food Bank staff across all departments to coordinate, guide and mentor internal and external messages, ensuring alignment with the organization's brand, image, voice and mission.
  • In collaboration with the Communications team, coordinate the development and implementation of a communications strategy.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in fundraising, business development or marketing for a nonprofit organization.
  • Exceptional writing skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong communication abilities with a wide variety of audiences and settings (oneonone and public speaking).
  • Literate in website management and design.
  • Social media proficiency.
  • Effective research and reporting abilities.
  • Able to work independently and provide timely reporting on progress.
  • Able to establish a professional and friendly relationship from first contact.
  • Understanding of notforprofit organizations and the charitable sector.
  • Ability to be nimble, multitask and establish priorities while working under pressure in a fastpaced environment with sometimes competing deadlines and tight turnaround times.
  • Must own a vehicle and have a class 5 driver's license.


This is a regular, full-time position working, 40 hours per week (including a half hour unpaid lunch break) 5 days a week, 8 hours per day.

Working conditions are normal for an office environment and may require occasional visits to the warehouse and events.
