    Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Short Range Drill/Blast Planner at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday schedule day shift.

    Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

    Short Range Drill/Blast Planner

    Location

    Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

    Summary

    Reporting to the General Manager - Technical Services, the Short-Range Drill/Blast is a key member of the Mine Scheduling, the responsibility of this role will be to support the development of short-range mine plans and strategies to maximize value of Copper Mountain Mine resources and mitigate business risk. This role is a great opportunity, you will actively work with multiple stakeholders across the value stream to facilitate best practice and develop mine planning skills in production scheduling.

    Responsibilities

  • Prepare weekly mine and dump plans
  • Prepare Daily Drill Plans
  • Drill and blast design and continuous improvement
  • Monitor scheduling and progress of day to day operations to ensure short and long term plans are consistently met
  • Interact with other departments on site to achieve Mine Engineering and site objectives
  • Evaluate mine production performance data and implement improvements as necessary
  • Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly reporting whilst identifying areas of concerns
  • Assist in project planning, execution, and closeout
  • Provide support to mine operations team through construction of dumps, haul roads and pit development.
  • Prepare and develop survey plans and layouts for the survey team at Copper Mountain
  • Maintaining reporting databases
  • Other duties as required to support mine operations
  • Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering in Mining, Geology or equivalent
  • Registered as an EIT with a Professional Engineering Association
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in the mining industry, preferably open pit
  • Mine design software experience (i.e. Surpac)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications required
  • Required Skills

  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels of the operation
  • Show initiative to analyze and solve problems
  • Good computer skills and an ability to learn and adapt to new software quickly,
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills,
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other team members in a positive manner,
  • Good work ethic and a strong attitude towards safety are essential requirements
  • Other duties as required to support mine technical services team.
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.
  • Working Conditions

  • Work involves a set work schedule on-site at Copper Mountain Mine, Monday to Friday,
  • Work consists of a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
  • Frequent exposure to sitting at a computer doing work online,
  • Exposure to dust and temperature fluctuations,
  • Occasional exposure to fluctuations in sounds, noise, vibration levels,
  • Rate of Pay

    $90K - $100K / annum.
