Astum Api Niikinaahk Support Helper

Classification:
Part-Time Weekends Saturday - Sunday 8 am

Salary:
$23.00 per hour

***: The
Support Helper - Ensures the safety of all residents and staff, performing such duties as screening telephone calls, monitoring the entrance, securing the building, and undertaking rounds as required. The incumbent will act in accordance with the Ma Mawi Code of Honour and Astum Api Niikinaahk' s service philosophy of providing trauma informed harm reduction support and assistance to our residents. They will encourage the residents to view themselves as a critical part of the Astum Api Niikinaahk community.


QUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Education in human services, or a combination of equivalent working experience, with an emphasis on assessment and meeting the needs of vulnerable populations is preferred.
  • Previous experience supporting care planners, community outreach, mental health, addictions, or housing programs in a frontline capacity is preferred.
  • Exposure to or direct work history with principles of evidencebased practices, relationship/client centered approached, Housing First principles and harm reduction models.
  • Prior experience on meeting the needs of vulnerable populations relative to housing is preferred.
  • Prior work with Indigenous cultures is preferred.
  • Working in a team environment with cultural groups, high needs, and marginalized populations.
  • Working with persons who are experiencing being homeless and knowledge of the barriers that is experienced in accessing supports.
  • Experience in assessing and supporting people experiencing mental health and addictions.
  • Training and experience in trauma informed care and harm reduction practices.
  • Trained in crisis intervention and risk management strategies
  • Nonviolence crisis intervention; CPR, Mental Health First Aid; Naloxone administration; AED defibrillator use; medication distribution; food handling certificate.
  • Valid driver's license, clear driver's abstract, and access to a vehicle for work related duties is required.
