    A Day in the Life...

    Reporting to the Associate Director, Programming the incumbent works in a team-based manner with instructors, subject-matter experts and other educational specialists to design courses and learning modules for multi-modal programming (e.g., online, hybrid face-to-face, etc.) for professional and continuing studies varied customers. The Instructional Designer will lead a variety of projects solely and/or by leadership with other instructional designers that will create and/or revise learning materials that leverage a wide range of delivery modes and are supported by the latest research and best practices for adult learners.

    As theInstructional Designer, you will:

    • Lead the work collaboratively with facilitators and subject matter experts to outline a learning design and development plan and implementation timeline for new projects;
    • Oversee all aspects of project management, including assigning tasks to other team members, creating project timelines and coordinating interdepartmental project teams
    • Create, implement and oversee a system to track broken and outdated resources and make recommendations to advance the unit;
    • Liaise with other developers, designers and production team members (e.g., graphic designers, media designers, production specialists, etc.);
    • Develop a standard approach and process for converting learning experiences into multi-modal learning (e.g., in-person to blended or online experiences or vice-versa) by determining the optimal mix of in-person or online content for each experience;
    • Explore and implement emerging technologies that may foster new modes of learning and/or provide specialized instruction;
    • Understand and initiate connections with programming to meet labour market skill development needs
    • Develop, adapt and implement an evaluation process for all programming in support of a continuous improvement culture (e.g., client evaluations, need assessments, stakeholder input, end-of-programming evaluations, etc.);
    • Perform AODA reviews and practices to ensure programming is developed in alignment with the AODA standards, expectations and guidelines from the provincial government;
    • Lead the optimization of the Learning Management System for all appropriate PCS programming (e.g., ensure all PCS programming is implemented in the LMS and functioning)
    • Provide input into project and/or department budget, resources, and direction for different programming mixes and projects within PCS.

    What you need to Succeed...

    • College Advanced diploma minimum and/or Bachelor of Education. Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Minimum of six to eight years of experience in course design and development;
    • Relevant teaching experience combined with familiarity in developing technology-enhanced learning activities, resources and assessments using an LMS;
    • A thorough understanding of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, and related regulations and the effective ability to interpret and apply this understanding into curricula design with practical application;
    • Project Management skills: ability to coordinate projects, monitor and update tasks and timelines, manage working relationships with subject matter experts to meet timelines for development;
    • Excellent computer skills and ability to learn new technology and applications; and
    • Familiarity with an LMS system like D2L Brightspace to understand potential learning activities/tasks, build assessments in the system and layout digital content appropriately.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral);
    • Strong writing and editing skills for related course materials;
    • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and highly resourceful with excellent research skills;
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks/requests and meet strict deadlines.

    Preferred or Asset Skills...

    • Master of Education;
    • Instructional design, curriculum development and assessment courses;
    • Involvement in post-secondary curriculum development;
    • Involvement in a continuing education environment; and
    • Knowledge of technology supports for teaching and learning as well as web conferencing, podcasting, authoring tools etc.

    Salary and Benefit Information

    • Job Grade (M), Salary Scale ($68,-$,)*;
    • Target Hiring Range: $68,-$80,
    • This position includes full comprehensive benefits including tuition waiver.

    *The salary range indicated is representative of all positions evaluated at this level. Actual salary is determined by assessing related skills, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness, subject to available budget.
