Role
The Ministry of Justice is striving to provide Albertans with more timely and accessible services.

In collaboration with key stakeholders, the ministry provides programs and services that ensure access to justice and support the needs of Albertans involved in the justice system.

In alignment with the commitment to delivering exceptional services to Albertans, we are seeking an Executive Director of Modernization, Information Management Technology (IMT) and Research (MIR) position within the Strategy, Support, and Integrated Initiatives (SSII) Division.


Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, SSII, the Executive Director, MIR will lead complex system changes, digitization initiatives, and data driven insight functions for the ministry.

This position will display appropriate acumen in interactions with multiple stakeholders and also lead continuous improvement, process modernization, and for large scale projects, while overseeing research activities that support government and departmental priorities.


In this role, you will provide leadership, support, and strategic direction on key innovation initiatives as well as guide the modernization, digitization, and re-engineering of ministry service delivery to provide an improved user experience for clients and partner agencies, reduce administrative burden on staff, and enable sustainability of programs.

A key initiative in this regard centers on the work done under Justice Digital.

Under Justice Digital, new digital services continue to be introduced, resulting in the digitization of over one million transactions within the courts to date.

The new digital services reflect a significant transformational change in how Albertans, the legal community, and other organizations interact with justice services.

A focused drive for results and consistent support within multiple divisions and to the courts in this regard is critical.


You will also oversee the research activities supporting government and departmental priorities, including providing consistent and timely data products for operational and strategic reporting, supporting policy and program development with research and evaluation services, and building the department's analytics capacity.

Additionally, you will be responsible for the continuous improvement and process modernization of the department IT systems, system coordination, legacy system strategy, and quality assurance processes.

Furthermore, you will coach and manage a team of directors, managers, professionals, contracted staff, and administrative support as well as managing the important relationship between Technology & Innovation and the ministry.


A strategic thinker and results-oriented leader, you will provide visionary leadership to five crucial units including Service Innovation and Digitization, Reporting Research and Evaluation, Projects and Supports, and the newly created Modernization and Information Management and Technology (IMT), and Data Analytics & GIS units, playing a critical role in enhancing capacity to leverage technology, and systems modernization efforts, ensuring the ministry remains at the forefront of innovation in justice services.


Qualifications

Your background includes extensive related senior management experience with strengths in briefing at senior levels, writing, program implementation, project management and sensitive stakeholder management, preferably in a government setting and within an information management and technology environment.

You also bring extensive knowledge of client-centered business models, issues relating to delivery of programs and/or services through multiple service delivery channels, and political and social trends and preferences regarding service delivery channels.

Knowledge of Alberta Justice programs and services and related government (provincial and federal) and court services would be an asset.

You are a systems thinker focused on strategic intelligence, data analytics, and information technology.

You are results oriented with proven strategic planning skills to lead multiple transformation initiatives and contribute to accelerated decision-making processes in a politically sensitive and dynamic environment.
