Job Summary:


Provide quality care and education for children birth to five years under the direction of the Director and the Supervising Educator.

Provide nurturing care in cooperation with families and colleagues by offering an inclusive and responsive, high quality early learning environment that is developmentally appropriate, safe, welcoming and meets the needs of the children in our care.

Plan, implement and evaluate curriculum goals that facilitate child-led learning in accordance with the centre's Program Statement, the Ministry of Educations pedagogy for the Early Years, "How Does Learning Happen" and ELECT, and in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014.

Report directly to the Supervising Educator.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

To assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation of developmentally appropriate programming based on the goals and philosophy of the Centre.

  • Responsible for the constant supervision, safety and wellbeing of the children.
  • Ensures children's learning is visible through current pedagogical documentation and uses reflection to enhance the program and consider new ideas and extend play.
  • Provide environments and experiences that engage children in active, creative and meaningful exploration, play and inquiry so that the children can make their own learning discoveries.
  • Engage in supportive and respectful interactions with children to ensure they feel a sense of security and belonging.
  • Provide a welcoming and nurturing environment by demonstrating ongoing affection, acceptance and support of each child and their unique needs
  • Support children in developing coping skills, regulating their behavior, and interacting positively with others. Recognizes all children's capacity to selfregulate and their right to be supported to develop these skills. Works with colleagues to embed early intervention strategies into the program and environment.
  • Provide a daily balance of active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, and individual and group activities.
  • Model positive behavior strategies and provides an environment that fosters positive social experiences including sharing, cooperation, respect for others and selfregulation.
  • Design or modify indoor and outdoor learning environments to support children's selfregulation, independence, reasonable risktaking, meaningful exploration and positive interactions. Assess the necessary resources and designs the environment to ensure safety and inclusion for all children.
  • Encourage parental involvement/inclusion in programming
  • Provide for spiritual growth based on the philosophy of the centre and Bay Park Baptist Church will ensuring sensitivity to nontraditional family units, cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
  • Identify to Supervising Educator the need for additional resources that may enhance program quality.
  • Respect confidentiality and build collaborative, positive relationships with families, colleagues, and students. Support, mentor, coach and encourage colleagues and students.

Maintain a clean, healthy and safe environment:Recognize, document and inform

  • Supervising Educator of any illness or accidents. Report suspected abuse to appropriate authority.
  • Inform Supervising Educator of all visitors to the Centre including but not limited to licensing agents, health unit personnel, and visitors from outside agencies.
  • Maintain a system of attendance including daily arrivals, health checks and departures.
  • Maintain Centre policies for the administration of medication. Ensure medication forms are completed properly and signed and medication is administered and documented accurately.
  • Ensure that child care routines are carried out in a manner that is prompt, hygienic and consistent with good child development goals. Maintain all related health and safety polices. This includes but is not limited to routines related to diapering, potty training, handwashing, toothbrushing, napping, eating and transitions between activities. Model personal hygiene and safety practices for the children.
  • Ensure the safety of the children through constant supervision, effective arrangement of space, routine scanning for health and safety concerns, proper maintenance of equipment and regular practice of fire drills and emergency procedures.
  • Keep all daily logs, Procare notifications, communication books and accident & Boo Boo reports updated.
  • Evaluate the environment daily (indoors and outdoors) for possible hazards. Correct small hazards immediately. Report others to the Health and Safety Officer. Report any problems related to the physical maintenance of the building to the Director.
  • Assist in keeping the classrooms and hallways clean, tidy and organized.
  • Maintain health and safety standards when setting up and putting away the yard, the sleeproom and classrooms.
