Manager, Government Relations and Advocacy
Ontario Dental Association, Yorkville

  • Central location, close to TTC, bike lanes
  • Growth and advancement opportunities available
  • Meaningful nonprofit organization work
  • Flexible location of work (remote or hybrid)

We're the Ontario Dental Association, and we represent over 90% of dentists in Ontario: advocating on their behalf to improve dentistry for both dentists and patients, and keeping Ontarians smiling.

Working with other health-care professionals, governments, the private sector and the public, the ODA provides a wide range of services, resources and continuing education programs to support ODA dentists in their pursuit of professional excellence and personal fulfillment.

We're looking for a talented and committed individual to join our Professional & Government Affairs team to deliver a high level of satisfaction for our members

Manager of Government Relations and Advocacy

In this role, you'll manage and advise on government relations and advocacy activity while developing and maintaining strong relationships with government officials and legislators to advance the priorities of ODA Dentists.

You'll utilize your strong written communication skills to draft communications, including briefing notes, position statements, talking points and more on a regular basis.

You'll also use your exceptional verbal communication skills to represent our organization to government and stakeholder groups, industry committees, chapters, and internal boards across Ontario.

Practically speaking, you will:

  • Advocate to advance the ODA's government relations objectives in support of the dental profession and the delivery of oral health care.
  • Communicate and engage with government stakeholders, including legislators, government officials, and political staff at all levels.
  • Coordinate with the Professional Affairs & Health Policy Team on the monitoring, research, and analysis of government activities which could impact ODA.
  • Develop briefing materials as required for volunteer leaders.
  • Train, supervise and evaluate the performance of the Coordinator, Government Relations and Advocacy.
  • Coordinate and provide advisory services to ODA members on government dental programs and advocacy matters.
  • Support Component Societies with local advocacy activities as required.
  • Manage the ODA's province wide Advocacy Network and support approved grassroots campaigns.

Working at ODA
This is a full-time, permanent position with some flexibility with daily work hours.

In addition to a competitive salary, you'll have access to a benefits plan that includes dental (of course) as well as plenty of vacation days, personal days, and access to a health spending account.

The position is part of the ODA's Flexible Location of Work policy (in-person, remote, or hybrid work options are available with in-person attendance required for staff events).

The ODA occupies a large, open, beautiful space in the heart of Yorkville, close to parks, transit, and everything downtown Toronto has to offer.

ODA is proud to be one of the GTA's Top Employers we think that says a lot about the culture and work environment we've built over the last 150+ years.

We are all about growth and learning:

every position in our organization offers both challenges and opportunities, and we encourage all our staff to establish themselves within and beyond their individual roles.

Whether through our employee recognition program, we make sure that support and opportunity are always within reach.

Qualifications

  • 25 years of government relations or advocacy experience, preferably in a notforprofit environment, or equivalent
  • Experience leading or supervising people in an office environment
  • Experience and understanding of federal, provincial and municipal public service and politics
  • Experience drafting and presenting briefing notes, position statements and reports on a regular basis for senior government officials, stakeholders, and the public
  • Bachelor's degree in an applicable discipline (e.g. history, political science, policy, public administration, public affairs)
  • And these are our nice to haves:_
  • 1 or more years of experience in an Ontario legislator's office and/or in another capacity with a Legislative Assembly of Ontario is an asset
  • 1 or more years of experience working in a Minister's office in Ontario is an asset.

If this sounds like you and you're ready to use your policy and government relations experience to align our strategies with our member needs, we can't wait to hear from you.
