Summary

An Industrial Painter prepares surfaces and applies paints and other coatings to interior and exterior surfaces and structures such as bridges, pipelines, towers, dams, machinery and industrial complexes.

They also operate, clean and maintain painting and coating, ventilation, compressed air and personal protective equipment. Also performs inspections, clean ups, storage and disposal of products.

Job Duties

Commit to a safe work culture.
Be responsible and accountable for the safety of him/herself, coworkers, and the general public.
Participate in mandatory safety tool box meetings, relevant safety and hazard assessments, in safety/incident investigations, and complete vehicle and equipment checks are carried out (as necessary)
Ability to read and follow instructions on MSDS and product information sheets
Perform a variety of routine and preventative maintenance painting duties, such as high steel and structural steel painting, sand blasting, and preparation for enamel, epoxy and high performance coatings
Clean up work areas, equipment, supplies and materials

Requirements:

Some college/vocational or technical training.
Journeyman Industrial Painting Certificate preferred.
Resinous, solvent drying paints, Catalyzed or polymerized paints, Bituminous coatings, Fire retardant coatings, Anti-Fouling paints, Inhibiting coatings.

Sandblasting, Abrasive and chemical techniques, Masking, Etching
Application Method:
Handheld Spray Guns
Must know how to select appropriate paint or mix paints.
High attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
A welldefined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, problemsolving, conflict resolution, and people management skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
This employee must ensure that their driver's license remains valid
Travel from site to site required
Fall Protection, CSTS, Aerial Work Platform and Confined Space Entry training is an asset.
Work at high elevations (scaffold, swing stages) and use appropriate fall arrest; also work in confined spaces.
Ability to read blueprints is an asset

Working Conditions:

Use of Personal Protection Equipment required
Regularly works in conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust.
Work in field and construction site environments, which may include slippery or uneven surfaces, exposure to heat, cold, noise, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, toxic chemicals, working around moving objects/vehicles or heavy construction equipment
Position may be physically strenuous and must have sufficient physical ability to perform heavy lifting
Lifting, pulling, standing, bending, stooping, climbing ladders, kneeling, crawling, walking, crouching for long periods of time.
May work at high elevations (scaffold, swing stages) and in confined spaces.
Manual dexterity required.
Performance of repetitive tasks.
Interacts with employees, management and the public at large.
Overtime is required
Work for extended hours and available for work 7 days a week as required.
