The Cardiovascular Disease & Diabetes Research Program is currently looking for a Research Program Manager to develop, improve, and sustain the operational effectiveness and efficiency of the research group.


Duties & Responsibilities:


This position is responsible for overseeing the project load of the research team, as well as managing research finance activities, human resource management, adhering to study protocols, ethical guidelines, timelines, and oversight of data management of a research program.


  • Schedules staffing and maintains efficient and optimal levels
  • Provides research design and analysis of study data, including assisting with planning, execution, statistical analysis, and interpretation.
  • Develops, maintains, and/or authorizes budgets, payment schedules, and creation/updates of financial reporting
  • Ensures development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Organize research group meetings.
  • Oversight or prepare animal care committee (ACC) protocols.
  • Oversees workload of team.
  • Plans the strategy and project management of the program (projects, timelines, staffing and resource needs)
  • In collaboration with the Principal Investigator, may help initiate, support, review, and/or develop research proposals and protocols.
  • Help initiate and develop research protocols, including research contracts in collaboration with Contracts department.
  • Coordinates Research Ethics Board approvals, and privacy agreements.
  • Conducts administrative and technical research and contributes to professional publications, presentations, posters, manuscript preparations, and knowledge translation products.
  • Ensures staff needs for performance of duties and responsibilities are met.
  • Financial management/oversight on the project and program as a whole
  • Responsible for staff contract renewals, job change/status requests, etc.
  • Research budget management including recoveries
  • Oversees programmatic and financial reporting

Qualifications:


Masters with 5 years of relevant experience in a leadership role OR demonstrable equivalent combination of specialized education and experience.

PhD Preferred.

  • Experience in overseeing the strategic development and implementation of large research programs.
  • Strong research skills in both wet bench and preclinical studies
  • Experience managing staff including delegation of tasks, developmental conversations, performance management.
  • Familiarity with research related ethical principles.
  • Familiarity with research budgeting, contract and REB.
  • Familiarity with budgets and spreadsheets.
  • Familiarity with medical research in vivo and in vivo
  • Proficient with MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • Familiarity with statistics/analysis software
  • Video conferencing (Zoom, Skype, Teams).
  • Finance software.
  • Data Management software.
  • Advanced Project Management.
  • Advanced Exceptional human resource management skills, and demonstrated ability to lead a team. Leadership skills.
