Dates:
Immediate start to December 8th, 2023


Schedule:
Full-time seasonal, 35 hours/week. Schedule is Wednesday to Sunday, 9am - 4:30 pm.

Position Description:


We are seeking a highly motivated and passionate individual to take on the role of Discover Parks Ambassador Team Lead for the Goldstream Salmon Run program.

As the Team Lead, you will lead a group of energetic Discover Parks Ambassadors in delivering fun, educational programs and providing exceptional visitor experiences at Goldstream Provincial Park during the fall salmon run.

Your leadership skills, environmental expertise, and dedication to promoting nature appreciation will play a crucial role in the success of the program.


What does a typical day look like?


As the Team Lead, for the Goldstream Salmon Run program, your day starts with energizing the team for the day's activities.

You lead a group of passionate Discover Parks Ambassadors, working together to deliver fun and educational programs at Goldstream Provincial Park.

Throughout the day, you engage with visitors, providing valuable insights about the park's ecosystem and inspiring environmental awareness.


Your work will entail coordinating program activities, overseeing the operation of the Goldstream Nature House and Gift Shop including sales, exhibit maintenance, tidying and cleaning, and reporting on program metrics.

As a leader, you provide mentorship and training to the team, ensuring they are well-informed about the park's flora, fauna, history, and conservation efforts.


Responsibilities:


  • Leadership: Provide guidance, support, and motivation to the team of Discover Parks Ambassadors, ensuring a positive and productive work environment.
  • Program Booking and Scheduling: Booking and Scheduling school/community group programs.
  • Program Leadership: Collaborate with coworkers to plan and organize educational programs, interpretive activities, and games for school groups, children, and families visiting the park.
  • Visitor Engagement: Interact with park visitors and lead interpretive programs, inspiring environmental awareness, and responsible park enjoyment.
  • Nature House Leadership: Oversee the operation of the Goldstream Nature House and Gift Shop, ensuring visitors receive supplemental interpretive information and excellent customer service in a safe, clean, and functional facility.
  • Reporting: Monitor and report daily interaction statistics and program attendance metrics to track the success of the team's efforts.
  • Training and Development: Provide mentorship and training to the team, ensuring they are knowledgeable about park flora, fauna, history, and conservation efforts.
  • Safety: Promote and maintain a safe work environment for team members and park visitors.
  • Communication: Stay connected with the team through online platforms while working in a remote environment.

Cultural Awareness:

Encourage diversity and inclusivity by valuing and learning about Indigenous and diverse cultures, promoting a welcoming atmosphere for all visitors.


  • Administrative Tasks: Complete operational tasks associated with the Nature House, including cash handling, cleaning, and recording and reporting donations and purchases.

Requirements:


  • Leadership experience, preferably in an environmental education role.
  • Strong passion for the environment and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, comfortable leading tours and engaging with large crowds.
  • Previous experience working or volunteering with children and demonstrated leadership abilities.
  • Ability to work in a remote environment, while staying connected with your team online.
  • Personal computer with video conferencing capabilities
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and reliable vehicle for accessing the parks.
  • Willingness to undergo a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search during the hiring process.
  • Background in environmental sciences or outdoor education

Skills and experience considered an asset:

  • Fluency in additional languages is an asset.
  • Standard first aid certification or higher is an asset.
  • Postsecondary study in natural or environmental sciences, outdoor education or related fields is an asset.
