Position Description:


The
OR Surgical Coordinator is responsible for providing operational support and leadership overseeing the surgical booking operations of the operating room while collaborating with the surgeons and Surgical Admin Supervisors to ensure quality care needs are met in a timely manner.

They will lead best practice targets for surgical bookings and enact quality improvement initiatives to ensure accurate bookings are accessible, effective, and appropriate post-op destinations are identified for our patients.

The Coordinator will support and participate in Perioperative quality initiatives and promote service excellence.

Responsibilities include the development, review, and revision of surgical booking processes and building collaborations with Perianesthesia, Surgical inpatient units, and the Departments of Surgery.

With the growing needs of our surgical wait list ensure all appropriate requests are completed in the surgical booking including post-op bed location (daycare, short stay, or inpatient bed) and equipment, supplies, and preference items.

The Coordinator will participate in the implementation and evaluation of booking processes both for the operating room and inpatient bed requests.

The Coordinator must possess the professionalism, adaptability, and flexibility to deal effectively with the complex healthcare environment and the ability to manage change and empower others to influence surgical booking processes


Here's What you'll Get to Do:

  • Participate as an active member of the POCU Leadership team, reporting directly to Sr Business Manager, Operating Room¿
  • Act as a liaison between the Surgeons, Surgical Administrators, and the OR Leadership Team (OR Manager, Business Manager, PreOp/PACU Manager, Director, and Associate Chief of Surgery) for operational and functional issues and objectives to manage surgical bookings.¿¿
  • Works in collaboration with the OR Patient Information Coordinator in the booking office and the OR Clinical Coordinator who manages the daily activity of the OR to ensure the relevant booking information is available to the clinical team
  • Collaborate and contribute to the surgical booking process, postop destination awareness development/revision of surgical booking policies/procedures.
  • Develop an efficient and optimal process for surgical bookings
  • Lead surgical strategic objectives to increase operational efficiencies with surgical bookings and maximize surgical throughput.
  • Oversee the execution of specific projects and engages SMEs and stakeholders as necessary¿to enhance the surgical booking process and operational readiness in the operating rooms.
  • Partner with Surgical Admin Supervisors across all services to assess surgical bookings and adherence to processes.
  • Meet with Admin teams to review future surgical bookings to ensure all appropriate requests are completed that include equipment, supplies, and preference items.
  • Participate in interprofessional committees and quality improvement activities
  • Actively promote and contribute to the professional development of peers and other healthcare team members.
  • Engage in reflective practice and participates in the Performance Management program.
  • Promote a positive working climate to foster team cohesiveness.
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuing education activities and lifelong learning as it relates to ongoing professional development and excellence in patient care.
  • Create, utilize, and analyze data and reporting tools to enhance our surgical bookings and communication.
  • Oversee OR case request management, develop strategies for preference card management, and Epicbased planning and communication strategies.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the EPIC tools, and work with the clinical teams and Epic analysts to either make changes to the existing forms or to support the clinical teams in learning how to enter/access information
