The Recreation Coordinator assesses, develops and coordinates the delivery of social, recreational, therapeutic programs consistent with the needs, interests and abilities of persons in care.

Respects and promotes the dignity and individuality of each person in care by recognizing them as individuals with unique cultural, spiritual, and psycho-social needs.


Education, Requirements, Skills

  • Experience in conducting assessments and building programs to reflect patient needs.
  • Experience in a social service or longterm care setting an asset
  • Experience and skills in facilitating activation programs
  • Demonstrated experience planning programs for patients with dementia and various physical limitations
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict management skills
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication in English (verbal and in writing);
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.
  • Creative, energetic, approachable, and highly motivated.
  • Genuine interest in working with seniors.
  • Current First Aid/CPR C certification.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Complete other tasks as requested.
  • Attends team meetings as requested.
Job Qualification


Education

  • Diploma in Recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, or equivalent
  • Gentle persuasion or Montessori preferred
  • CPR/ First Aid.

Experience:


  • Minimum 3 years of recreational coordinator/activation experience

  • Reliability is crucial.
  • Strong, communication, (oral and written) and exceptional interpersonal and decisionmaking skills.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations in an objective and consistent manner.
  • Ability to work independently and to effectively collaborate with a team.
  • Commitment to continued learning.
  • Current criminal reference check and vulnerable sector screen
