1 ‐ Full Time‐ Stroke Comm. Engmnt. Specialist

Regional Stroke Strategy Centre
Reporting to the Manager of Stroke and Neurology Services, the Community Engagement Specialist (CES) will

support primary stroke prevention, system optimization and stroke survivor re‐integration within Northwestern Ontario

(NWO). The development and implementation of plans will involve collaboration with health care providers and care

facilities across the region as well as organizations and providers including but not limited to, the Ontario Stroke

Network (OSN), the Heart and Stroke Foundation (HSF) and EMS System providers.


EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Experience:
*Minimum four (4) year Bachelor's Degree in an allied health‐related field (example: Occupational Therapy,

Physiotherapy, Speech Language Pathology, Dietician, Social Work, Kinesiology), from an accredited university

*Minimum of five (5) years' experience working in a health care environment in an allied health care role


Skills/Abilities:
*Knowledge of the Northwest's population health status and health care continuum of care including the region's

unique Indigenous landscape.

*Understanding of current health system governance and structures (example OH: CorHealth mandate).

systems theory, change management, capacity development, and community mobilization.

*Demonstrated project management skills related to tracking costs, dissemination of health‐related research and

evaluation methodologies, and ability to transfer and translate to policies, processes and knowledge with and for

stakeholders.

*Sound knowledge of Canadian Stroke Best Practice Recommendations (CSBPR) and Quality‐Based Procedures for

Stroke Care with a focus on rehabilitation practices and stroke transitions of care.

*Experience in, and sensitivity to, complexities of rehabilitation in various settings (hospital, community, long‐term

care, home care locally and in rural and remote communities) including funding, differing mandates/cultures of

organizations and professions, system issues and challenges.

*Demonstrated leadership, networking and conflict resolution skills.

*Demonstrated excellent presentation skills.

*Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue

improvement.

*Demonstrated excellent proficiency in software, e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and EMRs.

*Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal (e.g. presentations, report

generation and proposal writing).

*Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload.

Salary Range:
$43.546 to 51.230
