Sharp Trucking Services Ltd. is hiring a Field Safety Advisor for our head office in Edmonton, AB.

The Field Safety Advisor reports directly to the HSE Manager and offers expert knowledge and skills to generate and promote a positive health and safety culture.

This represents a key role in helping control operational risk.

This position is responsible for working directly with all employees and sub-contractors to ensure that all applicable safety legislation is adhered to in the field, and policies and practices are adopted, and that all customer health and safety requirements are met.

This position will help to plan, implement, monitor and review the protective and preventative measures the company is required or chooses to follow, and work to minimize operational losses, occupational health problems, accidents and injuries.

Must be able to travel 50% of the time across Alberta, BC and Saskatchewan.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set a positive example for safety across the company to promote proactive safety activities from all staff with a boot on the ground mentality that drives a clear safety culture.
  • Promotes continuous health and safety improvements, and the engraining of safe work behaviors as part of daytoday thinking, managing and mitigating risk
  • Incident investigation and reporting.
  • Works with management teams to develop safety frame works, conducts safety compliance inspections, including hazards analysis, safe work procedures, written reports and recommendations.
  • Conduct training programs and sessions for supervisors and employees, with respect to occupational safety issues and to meet local, provincial, and federal OHS requirements.
  • Design and write safety standards that conform to industry standards, federal, provincial and local regulations, as well as client qualification programs
  • Monitor compliance with the company safety program by employees and subcontractors
  • Create and advise on improvements in tracking and reporting procedures for safety data
  • Perform analysis of accident and injury data and identify trends and safety management program needs, assists with WCB claims reporting and management
  • Conduct preemployment driver evaluations and ridealongs as required.
  • Perform additional assignments per management's direction.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience working in a Federal Regulated company with transportation background
  • CRSP designation and/or relevant OH&S courses are preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of OHS and COR requirements
  • Ability to work in a team atmosphere
  • Ability to represent the company in a professional and courteous manner
  • Class 5 Driver's License and a clean driver's abstract/Class 1 license is an asset
