THE ROLE
Are you an Indigenous student or recently completed post-secondary education looking to gain valuable work experience with a growing and dynamic People/Human Resources team? If so, we invite you to consider joining our team


We are actively looking for an Intern to join our People team in May 2023, for a 4-month internship (May August 2023), reporting into the Manager, People & Culture.

The incumbent will be responsible for supporting various functions, but not limited to, Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Reconciliation (EDIR), and general People duties.


This is a fantastic opportunity for a student to gain valuable work experience in a fast-growing, dynamic environment while being a part of a new pension plan.

Due to COVID-19 this role hybrid and based in downtown Toronto with Work-From-Home flexibility (~2 days in office).
This is a paid internship opportunity.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

People & Culture:

  • Responsible for updating, filing, and auditing current employee files
  • Ensuring relevant, missing employee information and documented is in HRIS
  • Support the UPP social committee with events, communications, and initiatives
  • Providing administrative support to the People team
  • Assisting with compliance declaration forms
  • Review and assist in updating People Team Policies, Frameworks, and Procedures
  • Supporting People team on various projects, tasks and initiatives, as assigned

Talent Acquisition:

  • Assisting with the scheduling and coordination of interviews
  • Support the onboarding process of new employees through completing background and reference checks, and submitting new hire technology forms
  • Support the offboarding process of exiting employees
  • General recruitment support as needed

Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Reconciliation:

  • Conduct research to identify organizations supporting the Indigenous community to promote diversity hiring
  • Build relationships with organizations supporting equity deserving groups
  • Assisting with EDIR events, which include event logistics, coordination, and setup and teardown
  • Draft documents such as run of shows, and internal communications
  • Creating content for our internal EDIR calendar of events; writing, proofreading, and editing holiday/ commemorations communications
  • Support our growing Employee Resource Group communities by attending meetings, note taking and creating and maintaining shared templates

Total Rewards:

  • Provide benefits, compensation, and other total rewards administrative support

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Currently enrolled or recently completed a postsecondary program (diploma, degree, or professional training program).
  • You selfidentify as an Indigenous person (First Nations, Inuit, or Metis).
  • Knowledge or keen interest in HR practices such as talent acquisition, total rewards, organizational development etc.
  • Basic proficiency in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
