Come join our amazing Surgical Services Team as a Manager of Day Surgery, PACU & Unit 24 Short Stay Surgery at RDRHC.

This is a key leadership role in the Surgical Services Portfolio and reports directly to the Patient Care Manager of Surgical Services.

This position is responsible for and accountable for providing direction, team leadership and organization over the operational activities of the named units in support of the vision, mission, and business plan of Alberta Health Services.

The incumbent is responsible and accountable for making unit level decisions and having direct leadership responsibility for contributing to the achievement of the goals of the surgical program.

The position participates in budget planning, implementing, and maintaining standards of practice, hiring, supervising, and evaluating professional and support staff and implementing changes to structure, processes, and procedures in order to achieve improved outcomes in patient satisfaction, quality of care and resource utilization.

Creates an environment that promotes staff motivation and development, open communication, and leading best practice in support of a shared vision.

Responsible for leading special or ongoing projects or initiatives.


Description:


The Unit Manager is accountable for the Day Surgery, PACU & Unit 24 Short Stay Surgery at RDRHC and is responsible for participating in strategic planning; identifying budget requirements (human, material and capital resources) to safely meet patient needs; managing of expenditures and variance analysis; establishing and maintaining standards of practice; hiring and managing performance of staff; creating and sustaining a healthy work environment.

The manager maintains collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders and facilitates the implementation of changes to structure and processes in order to accomplish improved outcomes in patient satisfaction, quality of care and cost containment.

Leads a multidisciplinary team to facilitate quality patient care and facilitates physician-patient-staff interaction for a highly functioning team. Responsible for the provision of clinical services and ongoing operational management of the units. Responsible for operationalizing the strategic plan for the unit in alignment with AHS strategic plan.

Creates an environment that promotes staff motivation and development, open communication, and leading best practice in support of a shared vision.

Responsible for leading special or ongoing projects or initiatives. Models' positive acceptance towards change and supports others through the change management process.

Required Qualifications:

Active registration with applicable Alberta Regulated Health Profession.

Demonstrated 2-5 years leadership experience is required - for example, as an Assistant Head Nurse, or as a Team Leader - equivalencies may be considered.

Strong organizational and leadership skills and should include a demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching, and teaching, and the ability to build confidence in others.

Ability to manage in a highly organized and rapidly moving environment. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to demonstrate communications skills that promote respect and a positive team environment. Demonstrates advanced problem-solving skills integrating critical thinking and good judgment. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders is necessary. Effective teamwork, conflict resolution, change and resource management skills are essential. The incumbent should have demonstrated effective interpersonal and written communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in leadership or other health discipline preferred.
