Job Summary

  • Dalhousie University Libraries support and advance learning and research endeavors by providing collections, facilities and services that enable expedient access to the world's information and knowledge. Reporting to the Manager of Services, Support and Training for the Dalhousie Libraries, the Classroom Technologies Technician is responsible for providing both proactive and reactive audio visual (AV) and video conferencing (VC) support to faculty and staff on the Halifax campuses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform regular maintenance & system checks on AV & VC systems in common pool classrooms and offices, performing repairs where possible and documenting advanced issues for escalation.
  • Provide client support and consultative services to faculty and staff on the use of AV & VC equipment, software platforms, and other technologies to improve the overall delivery of the teaching and learning experience in the classroom or meeting room.
  • Manage loan pool equipment, ensuring it is in working order and accounted for. Set up and breakdown equipment for special events.
  • Oversee daily operations and manage a timesensitive fastpaced work queue.
  • Assign work and provide direction to student assistants.

Note
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

Required Qualifications

  • Technical diploma in recording engineering, audiovisual technology, information technology or a related field with approximately two to three years' related work experience in a customer service environment (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Demonstrated strong technical skills and experience working with a widevariety of classroom AV and VC systems, including, but not limited to, laptop and desktop (Windows and Mac) computers, projectors, microphones, cameras, public address and recording systems, SmartBoards, monitors, document cameras, MS Teams.
  • Strong problemsolving and diagnostic troubleshooting skills in high pressure, time sensitive situations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to work with individuals at all levels within the organization.

  • Relevant experience in a university setting and/or previous experience supervising students.
