NextStar Energy (NSE) is an innovative joint venture company between LG and Stellantis and will be Canada's first large-scale lithium-ion battery production plant when it begins production at the Twin Oaks site in Windsor Ontario.

The manufacturing facility will have an annual targeted production capacity more than 49 gigawatt hours and will create an estimated 2,500 new jobs in Windsor and the surrounding areas.

This state-of-the-art facility will be the first of its kind in Canada and is being built with the goal of becoming the foremost battery hub in North America.

  • As the Emergency Prevention & Response Specialist, your expertise in all applicable EHS Ontario regulations, program building, maintenance, data analysis, process improvement, and a strong emphasis on coordinated and concise emergency procedures involving the emergency response team will contribute significantly to the overall success of Next Star Energy for years to come.
Expert understanding of applicable EHS legal requirements in Ontario as well as emergency prevention and response best practices

  • Emergency action plans building, coordination, response, continuous improvement
  • Communication & coordination with external emergency supports
  • Expert understanding of the hazards internally that can become emergency scenarios and build control and response plans around them

This person will be responsible for:

  • Develop and track KPI's for the emergency prevention and response programs (EPRP)
  • Create, maintain, improve EPRP
  • Support in the development of training programs
  • Enforce adherence to laws, best practices, and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals
  • Ensure that all incident reporting and corrective actions are completed on time
  • Manage all NSE ERT First Aid, EMS, programs and activities.
  • Collaborate all emergency prevention activities within NSE as well as with partners, customers, stakeholders, and relevant government officials
  • Manage the development of strategies for identifying needs for both special and conventional items of emergency suppression and emergency safety equipment
  • Engage in the development of best practice emergency response programs associated with process specific hazards
  • Manage medical transport program
  • Manage safe transportation program
  • Manage medical surveillance program
  • Manage first aid program including reg 1101 occupancy requirements
  • Support a comprehensive, ongoing hazardous materials response training program such as xray, chemicals, biological agents, and radioactive materials
  • Manage planning sessions for major emergency response and contingency plans, as well as government level exercises
  • Manage and improve emergency prevention drill programs including collaboration with EMS, fire department, etc.
  • Act as an incident commander during emergencies and disasters
  • Facilitate and maintain positive relationships with outside responding agencies (fire, police, EMS, hazmat), and insurance and code officials
  • Assist security and the police during incidents such as crime and active threats
  • Collaborate with the Division of the Fire Marshal as well as provides guidance and support in accomplishing routine and specialized fire safety assessments and training
  • Perform other duties as assigned by EHS Lead

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree required in Occupational Safety or related field, MS or MBA preferred, or equivalent, relevant experience
  • Incident management / command system
  • National Incident Management System
  • An Introduction to Hazardous Material, Introduction to the Incident Command System, An Introduction to Exercises, Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response, Fundamentals of Emergency Management, Emergency Planning, IS-Leadership and Influence, Decision Making and Problem Solving, An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
