    Concert Hall Coordinator – Technician 6 (AESES)
    New Budget-Funded Continuing hours/week Monday to Friday; 12:00 – 8:00 pm with some evening and weekend shifts

    Responsibilities :

  • Overall supervision, operation, and coordination of the day-to-day complex operation of the Concert Hall.
  • Works with the Dean, to develop and redefine new policies and procedures.
  • Communicate general information and new policies to staff, students, renters, etc.
  • Prepares administrative and technical reports at the request of the Dean and Business Manager.
  • Works with the Dean, plans and estimates financial resources required for programs and/or projects.
  • Analyzes processes and recommends changes to the Dean.
  • Plan and administer the season schedule of DFOM events, external community concerts, internal University of Manitoba events, etc.
  • Works with the Dean to create agreements for bookings and equipment rentals.
  • Creates and manages rental and production contracts, technical riders and concert itineraries.
  • Implements a rollout plan for the season performance schedule.
  • Conducts routine inspections of the Concert Hall and ensures that building maintenance issues are reported.
  • Ensures the efficient caretaking of the facilities.
  • Preparation of all events and performances within the Concert Hall.
  • Create and manage production documentation and stage plots.
  • Inspects the facilities and equipment in accordance with the fire safety and risk management plan/policies, and completes the required follow-up.
  • First point of contact and emergency contact for any building, maintenance, access, caretaking, delivery, and safety issues in the Concert Hall.
  • Works with the Dean to ensure general upkeep and maintenance of the Concert Hall, including, but not limited to, renovations or capital improvement projects.
  • Approval and process of key assignments and ensure that a database/key control procedure is properly maintained.
  • Implementing production activities according to plans and schedules.
  • Oversee rehearsals and live performances, troubleshooting technical issues as they arise.
  • Supervise the setup and breakdown of technical equipment before and after events.
  • Supervise and provide training to students and other technicians.
  • Schedule box office and student technicians for all events.
  • Process timesheets and verify time submitted and conducts regular performance appraisals for part-time staff.
  • Development and implementation of training procedures for all staff.
  • Maintain relationships with musicians' committees and internal university community.
  • Assess areas of long-term focus, including partnership opportunities, collaborations, recording projects, etc.
  • Make recommendations to the Dean regarding purchase, disposal, and repair of Concert Hall equipment.
  • Selects, orders and maintains large and complex inventories of equipment and supplies for the Concert Hall.
  • Coordinates expenditures of equipment and maintenance; ensures within budget.
  • Prepare and maintain a total inventory of Concert Hall equipment and furnishings.
  • Completing Asset Disposal forms, recording the disposal in the database, and filing the report.
  • Scheduling piano tuning maintenance.
  • Receive and process all purchase and repair requests regarding equipment and instruments.
  • Provide external rental information to the Finance Administrator for Accounts Payable invoice processing.
  • Responsible for completing Incident Reports documenting loss, theft, or damage.
  • Arranges for all equipment needs for performances and events as needed, and ensure that the equipment is set up and working properly.
  • Analyzes technical operation activities and recommending changes for improvement.
  • Provides technical support on all equipment as needed.
  • Operation and maintenance of the hall's specialized equipment.
  • Writes instructional materials for the aforementioned equipment and provides training on its use and operation to faculty, staff and students.
  • Provides advice and guidance to academics, students, and technical subordinates.
  • Contact for vendors supplying equipment loans/rentals.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum Formal Education/Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field is required, preferably in Audio Engineering, Technical Theater, or Music.
  • Experience

  • Seven years of experience in a technical role within a concert hall or similar performance venue with at least two years of experience in a supervisory role is required.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment is preferred.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting audio, lighting, and visual equipment is required.
  • Strong knowledge in computer usage and applications in Microsoft and Adobe applications is required.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities is required.
  • Leadership experience in managing technical teams is required.
  • A high degree of applicable technical aptitude is required.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills required.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills required.
  • Excellent customer service skills required.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal is required.
  • Must be able to prioritize tasks in a high-volume work setting with shifting priorities.
