    Sun Life is looking for a Director, Sustainability to join our Canadian Partnerships, Innovation & Sustainability team to support sustainability plan execution, reporting to the AVP, Sustainability (Canada). The successful candidate will work with functional leaders across the Canadian business to continue the work of putting our plan into practice. This includes working closely with our Corporate Sustainability team. Our Partnerships, Innovation and Sustainability team acts as a central resource to the Canadian business, manages strategy development, monitors sustainability trends and issues, and is responsible for reporting and communications as it pertains to engagement of key stakeholders. The team leads the work to embed sustainable practices into our business, driving positive social and environmental impact while growing the business. Supporting the team's efforts is the Canadian Sustainability Council, a network of leaders from all our business units and regions in which we operate in Canada.

    The Director role has a pivotal responsibility in delivering the successful implementation of a best-in-class sustainability plan, with a focus on embedding sustainability into the Canada functions and governance processes.

    What will you do?

    Work directly with the AVP, Sustainability (Canada), the Corporate Sustainability team and other Sun Life Canada representatives to execute the Canada Sustainability Plan which will amplify the overall enterprise Sustainability Strategy. This includes:

    Work with business units across Sun Life Canada to enable and embed sustainability further into their road maps.

    Working closely with Corporate Communications to coordinate design and execution of employee engagement activities on sustainability and social impact issues specific to the Sun Life Canada business.

    Provide advice on embedding diversity, equity and inclusion into product and solution development and roll-out.

    Oversee effective communications for the Sun Life Canada Sustainability leadership team, developing presentations and speaking materials, identifying and evaluating speaking opportunities, and drafting briefing notes.

    Working with the Director, Sustainability Strategy, support the implementation of the action plan for the sustainability focus area of impact initiative for Canada, as required.

    Engage with external stakeholders and represent Sun Life at sustainability conferences and events to gather information and bring leading practices to the organization.

    Provide project management leadership for sustainability initiatives, as required.

    As a member of the Quebec Leadership Team, work with all Sun Life Financial employees in the Quebec market to implement Corporate Sustainability Plan.

    What do you need to succeed?

    This role requires a dynamic leader and strategic thinker who can effectively navigate complexity and ambiguity.

    Strong project management, stakeholder management, and facilitation skills.

    Well-organized and self-motivated, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and tight deadlines, both independently and as part of a team.

    Excellent oral and written communication skills.

    Demonstrated ability to build rapport with colleagues and achieve outcomes through influence.

    Ability to coordinate and organize internal stakeholders.

    Demonstrated knowledge and experience in impact strategies and how to implement in large organizations.

    Minimum 5 years in a sustainability or social impact role at a large organization (prefer Financial Services or similar).

    Media experience, considered an asset.

    Deep knowledge on issues such as diversity, equity and inclusion, sustainable investing, considered an asset.

    Masters in sustainability or equivalent an asset.

    As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.

    The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
