Marketing Assistant

  • Are you looking for a summer position where you can make a significant impact in the local community? _The Mississauga Food Bank's vision is
    a Mississauga where no one goes hungry. Our mission is to relieve hunger in Mississauga by providing and promoting access to healthy and appropriate food for people in need.

Objectives

  • Put your theoretical knowledge in marketing, journalism, photography, fundraising, or public relations into action in a busy nonprofit. Use the opportunity to work with and learn from experienced nonprofit professionals.
  • Procure videos, photos, and interviews to support the next year of marketing and fundraising efforts. Create engaging digital content to be used across all social media pages and assist with blog posts and event listings on our website.

Responsibilities

Conduct Interviews and Gather Promotional Footage

  • Source client, volunteer, and supporter stories to use in organizational marketing and fundraising materials by conducting interviews at the food bank, agencies and over the phone
  • Track the use of images, videos and stories in promotional and campaign materials

Digital Content

  • Ideate, create and post engaging content for all social pages including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok and YouTube
  • Facilitate working relationships with influencers and coordinate content
  • Create blog posts and event listings as directed and post on the website
  • Plan and track all content in social editorial calendar

Other Marketing Tasks

  • Assist in the implementation of a client marketing strategy to provide information on where vulnerable community members can find emergency food programs
  • Track and manage media coverage and/or mentions
  • Support other staff and activities of The Mississauga Food Bank, as required

Mandatory Qualifications

To be eligible, applicants must:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations


Desired Skills and Experience

  • Experience in a charity, public relations, marketing, communications, journalism, or similar environment
  • Studying for a college diploma or university degree in a relevant field
  • Skilled in videography and photography
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexible team player with versatile skills you're highly motivated, selfdirected, a problemsolver, and enjoy variety in your work
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Strong MS Office or G Suite skills (all programs) we are a cloudbased paperless environment
  • Experience with creating and posting on social media platforms leveraging the latest trends
  • Knowledge of social media tools such as Hootsuite
  • Graphic design experience and knowledge of Adobe Suite (In Design, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro etc.) is an asset
  • Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality at all times

Marketing & Communications Manager


Position Type: 35 hours/week, hourly


Working Hours:
Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.


Compensation:
$23.15/hour
