South Riverdale Community Health Centre is a non-profit, multi-service organization that provides primary healthcare, social and community outreach services with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention primarily to people of East Toronto.

The Health Promoter Women's Harm Reduction position works as part of the multi-disciplinary SRCHC Harm Reduction Program.

This position will work collaboratively with other team members, service providers, clients and community in the identification and resolution of community health issues and integration of services, particularly as it relates to female-identifying community members.

This position is expected to work onsite.


Responsibilities:


  • Provides comprehensive harm reduction services within a socialdeterminants of health and human rights focus, utilizing health promotion, community engagement, community development, social justice, traumainformed and antiracist/antioppressive (ARAO) strategies
  • Provides information and referrals to health and social service supports to service users
  • Assesses, responds to and manages overdose events when required
  • Responsible for Harm Reduction stocking and ordering, in communication with other staff positions
  • Participates in training and knowledge transfer activities for the Harm Reduction Program, including workshops and training materials
  • Follows and supports the maintenance of established protocols across the SU&MH team, ensuring clear, accurate and timely written documentation in accordance with established procedures and policies set by our funders and SRCHC
  • Prepares statistical data, funding reports and other documentation as required
  • Collaborates with team members in the ongoing development of effective organizational processes related to SRCHC women's harm reduction programs
  • Works in partnership with other organizations and services as a collaborative team
member as requested

  • Collaborates with own team and other teams across the organization to identify and provide health education to target groups
  • All other duties as required

Qualifications:


  • Postgraduate degree from a recognized university in social work, or a related discipline, or a combination of undergraduate degree and significant experience
  • 35 years health promotion and/or harm reduction experience in a community setting, working with homeless and marginalized populations including people who inject illicit drugs
  • Significant experience working with harm reduction program delivery, values and strategies and coordinating programming within traumainformed, gender transformative, low barrier, harm reduction, social justice and ARAO frameworks
  • Demonstrated respect for diversity, equity, antiracism and accessibility with the ability to work collaboratively and positively with others
  • Demonstrated display of sensitivity to others
  • Experience with mentorship and support of peer teams and delivering training
  • Advanced skill and experience in crisis response and deescalation
  • Ability to appropriately handle conflict
  • Excellent knowledge of community services and resources
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to actively and accurately listen
  • Open to feedback
  • Experience in program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation considered an asset
  • Respects and values the diversity of communities and individuals
  • Police clearance documentation will be required for employment
  • Proof of triple COVID19 vaccination status will be required for employment
