Co-op Student - Climate Action Program (Temporary - up to 8 months)

Are you passionate about addressing the urgent challenges of climate change and contributing to community resilience? The City of Victoria's Climate Action Program offers an exciting co-op opportunity for students who are eager to make a tangible impact in the field of environmental sustainability.


As a Co-op Student supporting the Climate Action Program, you will assist with data analysis, policy development, education, communication efforts and play a vital role in implementing the City's Climate Leadership Plan.

You will also have the opportunity to collaborate on the development and execution of climate plans, including the Climate Change Adaptation Plan and updates to the Climate Leadership Plan.

This opportunity is for students pursuing a degree in Sustainability, Climate, Environmental Science or Studies and interested in a 4 month or 8 month co-op term starting September 2023.


POSITION FUNCTION


As a student hired under the Co-operative Educational Training Program, you will be given meaningful and challenging assignments while being introduced to a career in municipal government.

In this Co-op position you will assist with supernumerary projects and contribute to the overall goals of the work unit.


KEY DUTIES


Under the direct guidance and observation of the supervisor, assist with the on-going enhancement of the City's operations by utilizing existing tools and software platforms.


Participate in the development and improvement of future-focussed projects that align with the department's strategic goals and objectives by providing supernumerary field or office support.


Conduct and document research, analyze and interpret data, prepare summary of findings, draft reports, procedures and/or practices, and present to supervisor for feedback and/or next steps.

Assist with identifying and testing new and/or enhanced tools and processes and collaborate to ensure 'shared learning'.


INDEPENDENCE
Work is assigned by supervisor and reviewed upon completion.

Problems are referred to supervisor.

Working level knowledge of current City word processing, spreadsheet, and related specialty software including social media tools

Maintain accurate records with attention to detail.

Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.


QUALIFICATIONS

Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:
High School.

Enrolled in a recognized Co-operative Education Program at a Canadian Post-Secondary Institution.

Currently attending full-time education and returning to full-time studies in the subsequent academic year.

In good standing in an Undergraduate Degree Program or Technical School Diploma Program.

Not required.

Work schedule:
Monday to Friday, (35 hour work week)


$29.95 per hour, Pay Grade 2
