Working together with youth, families and communities to achieve positive outcomes and change lives

The Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre is a program of Provincial Services Division of the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

The Maples is a designated provincial mental health facility providing on-site, community, outreach and ancillary services to collaboratively support youth, families and communities.

The Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre works with youth in British Columbia with enduing and severe mental health and behavioural difficulties, ages 7 to 17 (up to the 18th birthday), as well as youth found Not Criminally Responsible by Reason of a Mental Disorder (NCRMD) or unfit to stand trial.

Additional services include community consultation service, training/capacity building opportunities and ongoing sharing of current literature.

Through a multi-disciplinary approach, our objective is to collaboratively enhance the capacity of communities to plan and care for challenging youth through a closer to home focus.

On-site programs provide a period of clinical evaluation, stabilization, intervention and follow-up in a structured setting as well as support for families/caregivers and the development of a plan of care.

Program areas operate with a multidisciplinary team of social workers, psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses and childcare counsellors. Community programs are similarly configured but delivered within the home community.

The constellation of services offered include medical/psychiatric evaluation; multi-disciplinary assessment and plans of care; family therapy, education and support; educational opportunities through Burnaby School District; vocational, recreational and social interactive experiences; on-going outreach and respite services; on-going program evaluation.

The Child and Youth with Complex Needs (CYCCN) program is part of the Maples and provides service to young people ages 7-18 with co-occurring persistent emotional, mental health, development and/or behavioural needs that cause a functional impairment in the home, school, or community and who require specialized, integrated service plans.

Services can be provided on-site in the Complex Care Unit (CCU) or through Provincial Outreach.

The Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre has developed Satellite Services in two additional communities outside of the lower mainland.

These Satellite Services deliver short term mental health programming for children and youth with enduring and severe mental health and substance use concerns and are an extension of the Maples, offering on-site and community-based Maples services.
