Minimum:
$43,758.00 Maximum: $57,432.00

ORGANIZATION:

The BC-CfE is a world-renowned HIV/AIDS Centre with innovative, low barrier approach to healthcare delivery in clinical practice and an integrated group of research concentrations in Laboratory Sciences, Clinical Trials, Population Health and Epidemiology, Health Economics and Professional Education Programs.

A multidisciplinary team of clinicians including Physicians, Nurses, Social Workers and Peers and researchers including Health Economists, Epidemiologists, Clinical Researchers, Statisticians, Programmers, and Data Analysts work collaboratively to improve the health of British Columbians with HIV and communities facing socio-economic barriers in accessing healthcare through the development, ongoing monitoring and dissemination of comprehensive research and treatment programs for HIV and related diseases.


ROLE SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Laboratory Director or designate, the Laboratory Clerk is expected to perform data management functions, generate reports, and respond to inquiries by healthcare providers in support of the clinical service delivery of BC-CfE Laboratory.


ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs duties related to data input of information, such as test requisitions, into the laboratory computer information system
  • Performs clerical and reception duties, such as typing, answering the telephones and filing
  • Uses a variety of computerized database and query tools, spreadsheet and word processing software to prepare and verify clinical information
  • Performs data quality checks on all clinical data entries in order to ensure accuracy, integrity and confidentiality of patient data and test results
  • Performs data management functions to ensure clinical information is accurate and clarify data as needed with requesters
  • Prepares, issues and generates test reports from our computerized database on a daily basis
  • Prepares, issues and generates daily/weekly technical and quality assurance reports for Laboratory Director's review
  • Performs other duties as required

ROLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience

  • High School graduation plus experience in a similar role. Preference will be given to individuals with a Technical or BSc. degree in a science or health field

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of computerized laboratory information systems used in data collection and analysis
  • Knowledge of the importance of patient confidentiality
  • Excellent analytical skills to evaluate laboratory data and perform routine troubleshooting of data inconsistencies
  • Excellent writing skills and reasoning skills
  • Excellent oral and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently but cooperatively in a group setting
  • Shift in focus several times a day to respond to inquiries, problems and unexpected situations
  • Standing or sitting for long periods of time when performing duties
  • Lifting up to 20 lbs. e.g. small pieces of equipment, packages
  • Knowledge of laboratory principles, techniques and procedures would be an asset
