RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • The Clinical Dietitian is accountable and must meet specific goals and objectives to ensure that adequate and appropriate nutrition care is provided to patients and clients.
  • Assess, plan, coordinate, implement and monitor the nutrition care of patients and clients in a specified clinical area and ensure appropriate nutrition education.
  • Develop nutrition care plan, counsel and educate patients/clients individually or in groups. Liaise with outside agencies/departments/organizations for appropriate nutritional monitoring upon discharge.
  • Act as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team in designated clinics and medical services, communicating with physicians and other allied health professionals regarding patient care; discharge planning; patient transitioning to home/home care.
  • Be responsible for orientation and training of new staff members in specified clinical areas including, but not limited to dietetic interns and diet technicians/food service supervisors.
  • Contribute to and support departmental/hospital quality assurance program.
  • Contribute to and support departmental/hospital operation.
  • Maintain current standards of professional practice.

REQUIREMENTS:


  • Membership with the College of Dietitians of Ontario is required
  • Strong background in hospital and departmental methods, policies, procedures, accreditation standards, quality assurance standards and nutrition care standards
  • In depth scientific knowledge in the area of nutrition science including nutrition support, research, and interpretation and assessment of complex medical and lab data.
  • Requires initiative, resourcefulness, creativity and imagination when developing teaching materials, utilizing different methods of instruction and counselling for patients/clients, other medical staff, and stakeholders
  • Requires excellent communication, interpersonal, and counselling skills to communicate effectively with physicians, professional/nonprofessional hospital staff, patients/clients and their families, and all other stakeholders
  • Demonstrate ability to work with mínimal supervision, have excellent time management, and is flexible to efficiently and effectively coordinate the activities of team member(s), clinical diet technicians/food service supervisors and dietetic interns and meet daily patient care load responsibilities
  • Requires the technological skills to operate office equipment/software such as but not limited to: personal computer, calculators, audiovisual equipment, nutritional software packages, databases, Meditech, CBORD, wordprocessing, presentation software, and the internet for research purposes.
