    Position Summary
    Coordinator, Resident Activation
    The Coordinator, Resident Activation is responsible to the Administrator for the management of the admission process and the Program Department. Through effective management of all resources and cost centers in the program area and development of a strong team that will deliver optimal service to residents and families based on legislative requirements. This position supervises and maintains the Activation department which provides opportunity for residents to choose and participate in activities which are designed to meet the physical, intellectual, spiritual, emotional and cultural needs and interests of the residents in the Long-Term care facility.

    On a practical level, you will
  • Plan, coordinate, direct and monitor the effectiveness of all operational activities within the program department
  • Develop and sustain operational plans for the effective operation of the department
  • Establish and maintain a quality and risk management system to ensure legislative requirements
  • Ensure that all required programs and therapy committees are functioning
  • Participate in corporate and external committees such as JHSC, Family council and resident council etc.
  • Interpret MOHLTC legislation, regulations and processes and implement processes and systems to ensure compliance while ensuring the sustainability of all systems and processes.
  • Lead orientation and performance management processes for all employees
  • Establish, monitor and evaluate staffing patterns and work schedules in accordance with the program envelope budget and with Collective Agreements
  • Identifies department learning needs and makes provisions for appropriate education and staff development
  • Participates in the development of the annual program budget
  • Manage and monitor all program envelope expenditures, explains monthly variances and identifies corrective action as required
  • Participate in on-going care conferencing
  • Provide positive customer service and respond to concerns of residents and family members, mediating a satisfactory response to concerns
  • Coordinates the admission process of all new residents
  • Assist in linking residents/families with resources and services both within the facility and community
  • Contribute to the development and creation of a safe work culture
  • Ensure direct reports adhere to the OHS act and regulations and all policies and procedures
  • Conduct regular safety inspections
  • Oversees the orientation of direct reports in all areas of health and safety, emergency preparedness and any departmental hazards
  • Participates in drills to prepare for emergencies and attends educational sessions in relation to emergency preparedness
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Qualifications
  • Diploma in the field of recreation is required, Bachelors in Health Sciences or equivalent is preferred
  • Membership with TRO/APO and/or registration with Therapeutic Recreation for Ontario
  • 3-5 years experience in front line management and recreation/leisure programming in Long Term Care facilities required
  • Minimum 3 years management experience in Long Term Care preferred
  • 3-5 years of leadership experience required
  • Bilingualism in French/English is an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to function independently and to work within an inter-professional team.
  • Highly developed critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, organizational, problem solving and communication skills
  • Ability to manage conflict resolution and negotiation at all levels of the organization
  • Excellent leadership skills and the ability to coach, and motivate the health care team
  • Self directed and able to deal with multiple stakeholders while managing multiple priorities. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, email, internet and computerized documentation.
