The role:_


As General Manager of Safari Niagara Zoo and Park, you will be responsible for the effective leadership, organization, planning, coordination, and execution of all functions of Safari Niagara.

The scope of this position includes leading all aspects of operations including animal, and personnel management, education, concessions, marketing customer service, security, facility safety, maintenance, and development.

Key areas of responsibility are sponsorship programs, fundraising initiatives and the management and operation of the park.

You will oversee the land management, land leases, branding, horticulture, roadway maintenance and other services required to ensure its safety, cleanliness, and value to the visitors' experience.


You will also be responsible for contacts with fellow employees, contractors, volunteers, the public, staff of other departments, and other stakeholders both at the Safari Niagara and other tourism attractions or partners.

Must communicate regularly with outside agencies and groups, including various government departments (e.g., Natural Resources, Environment Canada, Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Department of Health, Ministry of Labour, OHSA, etc.)

Leadership

With your team, you will:

  • Establish clear short
- and long-term goals and objectives, ensuring objectives and annual work plans are achieved and in line with objectives and goals of the Department, the Corporation, and the community.

  • Prepare, manage, and monitor the annual operating and capital budgets for the division and make recommendations to the General Manager.
  • Collaborate with executive level management in the development of performance goals and longterm operational plans.
  • Play a leading role in participating in the company's growth strategy by ensuring the park is delivering with the highest brand standards which are inviting to new and returning guests.
  • Support all department supervisors, leads and seasonal team members to ensure a high level of brand standards.
  • Execute strategies to ensure growth of programs organization wide, identifying and implementing process improvements that will maximize output and minimize costs.
  • Lead, manage and evaluate staff who report directly to this position.
  • Ensure expertise and effectiveness across operating platforms.
  • Ensure all licensing and training is current for all.
Stays abreast of relevant laws and regulations pertaining to Safari Niagara and Safari Niagara operations.

Park Operations Management

  • Oversees all Safari Niagara operations including development, sponsorships, and fundraising activities. Security, emergency protocols, education, horticulture, animal care and health, capital projects, food service, merchandising and concessions, customer inquiries and land leases as well as planning and execution of special events.
  • Sources outside funding for projects (municipal, provincial, federal, and corporate etc.) and develops partnerships for park development, conservation efforts and veterinary programs.
  • Works collaboratively with various organizations to address animal improvement projects, partnerships and plans and develops fundraising events.
  • Works with exhibit designers, architects, and contractors in the construction of Safari Niagara environments to develop and organize captivating zoological exhibits.
  • Ensures municipal, provincial, and federal laws and regulations are adhered to and that the Safari Niagara is in compliance with the Canadian Accredited Zoos and Aquariums standards.
  • Collaborates and provides guidance with departmental supervisors and curators in accordance with the longterm collection plan of animals for the Safari Niagara.
  • Develops and implements a marketing strategy for the Safari Niagara including the acquisition of corporate partners to augment the marketing plan.
  • Responsible for the relationships with tenants and partners of the Safari Niagara to ensure that the overall objectives of safety, cleanliness and a positive visitor experience are maintained. Furthermore, to work with these neighbouring attractions as part of marketing the park.
