Scarborough Centre for Healthy Communities (SCHC) is one of the most established and comprehensive community health organizations in the province.

We employ approximately 300 staff, engage over 400 volunteers, and operate 40 distinct and integrated services across 10 sites that work together to improve the health and wellbeing of the diverse communities of Scarborough.


Our vision is to ignite the strength of community and we will do this through our commitment to providing accessible, equitable and transformational health and social service choices, for the well-being of diverse communities.


SCHC is an accredited (exemplary standing) comprehensive community health organization delivering a range of holistic health and wellness programs and social services from early years to end of life across Scarborough.

Through a health equity lens, our integrated and accessible programming focuses on primary health and disease prevention services, community engagement, wellness support and health promotion.

Direct support to vulnerable, racialized and marginalized community members in Scarborough is provided through our Food Bank market and hot meals, homelessness support, mental health and addictions services, EarlyON Family and Child Centre and dedicated social engagement programs.

Our organization offers over 40 culturally competent programs in a variety of languages that reflect the population it serves across 10 different sites in Scarborough.

We are seeking dedicated, community-minded individuals to serve on our Board of Directors.

As a skill based board that is representative of the diversity of Scarborough, we are currently seeking individuals with experience in:

Requirements:


  • Interest, passion and/or sufficient knowledge and experience in serving Scarborough's more vulnerable and marginalized residents.
  • Awareness of antiracism/antioppression education and practices.
  • Strong interpersonal, teammanagement and communication skills
  • Demonstrated evidence of the following competencies: Leadership, Integrity, Reliability, Critical Thinking, Effective Communication Skills, Strategic Planning and Professionalism.

Available to:

  • Attend a monthly inperson evening Board meeting for approximately three (3) hours;
  • Participate in Board Committee meeting(s) for approximately two (2) hours a month.
  • Review prework for meeting(s) approximately three (3) hours a month
