    The Opportunity:

    Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Blaster at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 7x7 schedule, day shift rotation.

    Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

    Location

    Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

    Summary

    Reporting to the Drill & Blast Supervisor, the Blaster is responsible for filling blast holes with explosives and detonating to dislodge materials as directed by the Supervisor while meeting all safety regulations, policies, and procedures of Copper Mountain Mine.

    Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in all Environmental, Health and Safety aspects of the mine and assure all safety procedures and programs are effectively being followed,
  • Read and follow detailed maps of blast designs,
  • Handle, store and transport explosives and accessories in accordance with regulations and ensure that safety procedures are observed,
  • Load blast holes with explosives,
  • Guide loaders and bulk explosives trucks to blast hole locations,
  • Supervise Blast crew members,
  • Safe work practices in accordance with Copper Mountain Mine's safety policies,
  • Other duties as required.
  • Education & Experience

  • Valid BC Open Pit Blasting Certificate,
  • Experience operating blast hole drills and other pieces of surface mining equipment is considered an asset,
  • Valid first aid certificate is considered an asset,
  • Valid Surface Mine Rescue certificate is considered an asset,
  • Shift Boss certificate is considered an asset,
  • Minimum 3 years' experience.
  • Required Skills

  • Have high regard for personal safety and the safety of company property and employees,
  • Ability to learn from others and adopt best practices while maintaining a strong focus on safety, integrity, and reliability,
  • Self-motivated and be able to work with minimal supervision,
  • Possess valid driver's license,
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Working Conditions

  • Frequent exposure to uncomfortable conditions associated with the work environment such as working in noisy and dusty environments,
  • Work includes working in heavy industrial environments; this may have conditions that include adverse temperature conditions, both hot and cold; in and/or around moisture; walking on slippery and/or rough, uneven surfaces, in confined spaces; at heights; and involves climbing ladders and stairs,
  • Exposure to working outdoors in all weather conditions, operating a light vehicle at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain, including winter driving,
  • Regular exposure to lifting and moving items and equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Rate of Pay

    $43.73 / hr.
