Job Summary:


This role works with Public Health Nurses and a Registered Dietitian in delivering weekly Halton Prenatal Programs at various community locations.

This position will primarily be responsible for providing the food component of the program, including menu planning, purchasing food, preparing a meal, cleaning up and coordinating Healthy Food Box deliveries.


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Plan program menus and manage a food budget, in conjunction with the Halton Prenatal Nutrition Program (HPNP) Coordinator.
  • Purchase groceries and ensure safe food handling.
  • Provide site set up and clean up.
  • Prepare and serve meals.
  • Demonstrate proper food preparation techniques, safe food handling techniques and provision of recipes for meals served to participants.
  • Meet and greet participants.
  • Coordinate the delivery of Healthy Food Boxes for participants.
  • Attend HPNP planning/staff meetings as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications:


Essential

  • Secondary school diploma.
  • Safe Food Handler course or equivalent certified training in food safety.
  • Current certificate in adult/child CPR.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work with mínimal supervision and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Must have demonstrated skills in menu planning, food purchasing, preparation and budgeting.
  • Must have a positive attitude and be sensitive to social, economic, environmental and cultural issues that impact the lives of program participants.

Preferred

  • Experience working with breastfeeding parents and/or Level 1 WHO/Unicef Breastfeeding 18 hour course.
  • Experience preparing a wide variety of ethno/cultural meals, including vegetarian and vegan meals.

  • Travel will be required between locations within Halton Region; must supply own transportation.
