SANITATION SUPERVSIOR

_ Cavendish Farms is a leading producer of frozen potato products for retail and foodservice markets throughout Canada, the United States and around the world. We have state-of-the-art processing plants in New Annan PEI, Lethbridge, AB, Wheatley, ON and another in Jamestown, ND, with head offices in Dieppe, NB and sales locations in Toronto, Montreal and Boston._


The Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of the Sanitation department in Plant 2 by ensuring adequate staffing and training.

Developing, implementing, and maintaining all aspects of the sanitation for Food Safety/Quality Programs. Accurately and efficiently perform, document and communicate sanitation assessments on a continuous basis. Safeguards both employees and customers by maintaining the highest level of sanitation. Create and lead a positive, safe, productive & professional atmosphere.

Relationships and Contacts

This position reports to the Processing Manager. The position requires interaction with contractors, unionized and salaried staff.


Key Responsibilities:

  • To organize, staff and effectively lead the sanitation department in Plant 2 to ensure that all policies and procedures are developed, implemented, and followed according to customer specifications, regulatory requirements and Food Safety & Quality requirements. Participate in third party audits with regard to pest control, sanitation, allergens, training, SDS, internal facility inspections and master sanitation schedule;
  • Organize, staff, direct, and control sanitation operations to ensure that plant and objectives are achieved in an effective and efficient manner. Development of a subordinate staff, capable of meeting current and future performance standards by selecting and developing key subordinates. Conduct employee performance, counseling and disciplinary actions;
  • Provide training and mentoring to individual staff members and in group settings;
  • Establish the annual budget, complete routine ordering supplies & invoices. To effectively communicate and work closely with all departments to achieve company strategies and goals. Advise and oversee all aspects of outside contractors related to sanitation. Conduct frequent walkthroughs. Ensuring sanitation procedures are being met;
  • Initiate actions supporting continuous improvement. Defining and implementing systems and procedures to ensure the least cost sanitation objectives. Carry out new innovative ways to help reduce cost and waste. Conduct monthly safety meetings and job training as required;
  • To maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and assist other personnel as needed to maintain the same conditions in the processing area. To keep the Director of Operations informed of daily issues relating to the efficient operation of mechanical systems. To attend and participate in meetings, training and continuing education programs internally or externally as deemed appropriate by management;
  • Using or wearing the protective equipment designated by plant policies;
  • Follow safe work procedures, rules and policies;
  • Ensure that good housekeeping is maintained at all times;
  • Reporting all accidents or injuries to your manager immediately;
  • Commitment to Quality System Policy;
  • Enforce GMP and HACCP Policy and procedure within the role;
  • Active participation in food safety, food security, health, sanitation, hygiene and quality program within the role
  • Order chemicals and supplies for the department.
  • PO management for Sanitation and Plant services departments
  • Community College or University Degree in Food Science or equivalent work experience;
  • Experience managing people and a department;
  • Ability to multitask in a dynamic environment and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines;
  • Willingness and ability to learn and adapt to new situations;
  • Ability to work in a team environment and take direction from others;
  • Flexible hours and ability to work nights and weekends;
  • Demonstrated ability to train and mentor subordinates;
  • Knowledge of chemical handling practices in food manufacturing environment;
  • Ability to analyze and present information effectively and accurately;
  • Clear understanding of and dedication to meeting deadliness;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of the team;
  • Strong safety knowledge for Sanitation and equipment;
  • Good computer skills.
