We operate 27 centres in public elementary schools throughout the City of Hamilton - including outlying areas - and provide service to over 2,400 children each day.


In operation since 1988, Umbrella is a non-profit corporation administered by a community-based Board of Directors who have a keen interest in early learning and childcare.

Who are we Looking For?
We are looking for a
Manager of Program Excellence to compliment our team.


Reporting to the Director of Childcare Programs, this position will work collaboratively with each Umbrella location to provide leadership in the areas of pedagogy, equity, diversity and inclusion and ministry and legislative compliance.

The Manager of Program Excellence is responsible for the development and implementation of a continuous quality improvement framework to align with the mission, vision and values of the Umbrella Family.

This position has three (3) direct reports, which include an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Specialist, Pedagogy Specialist and a Ministry & Licensing Specialist.


What are we Looking For?

Education, Professional Designation and Certification Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Early Childhood Education or a related field is required; and
  • Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) in good standing; and
  • Certificate in Not for Profit Leadership would be considered an asset.

Experience, Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Ten (10) years of experience working within a childcare centre and five (5) years of people management experience;
  • Experience working in a notforprofit organization;
  • Indepth knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations, to carry out job responsibilities;
  • Working knowledge and skill to provide professional expertise and guidance to directly supervised employees;
  • Indepth knowledge and understanding of "How Does Learning Happen?" principles;
  • Indepth knowledge and understanding of CCEYA;
  • Working knowledge of Equity, Inclusion and Diversity initiatives within the workplace;
  • Strong Project Management experience;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Effective and welldeveloped interpersonal skills;
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite is preferred, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Confident and consistent decisionmaking skills;
  • Resourcefulness and flexibility to meet the needs and demands of the position;
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member to achieve outcomes and meet deadlines; and;
  • Ability to balance demands and priorities and to manage effectively.

Certifications

  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check;
  • Proof of uptodate immunization for TB, Tetanus and MMR;
  • Standard First Aid and CPR; and
  • Proof of COVID19 Vaccinations in accordance with the organization's COVID19 Vaccine Policy.
