GHD's Engagement, Communication and Communities group supports a variety of other GHD groups and external clients, conducting public engagement activities and preparing communication materials for environmental and engineering projects.

The Water group within GHD Canada works with local regions and municipalities on a variety of linear infrastructure projects throughout the project lifecycle from asset management, planning, detailed design, and engineering services during construction.


The Community Liaison Field Ambassador facilitates communications between residents and the project teams for all construction projects GHD is undertaking for a client.

The role requires strong customer service skills and the ability to manage challenging conversations. Knowledge of municipal construction practices for sewer, watermain and road construction would be considered an asset.

  • Serving as an accessible public information liaison for all construction field projects included within the construction program.
  • Preparing and delivering constructionrelated public notices prior to work taking place.
  • Collaborating with residents, institutions, and businesses to ensure early identification of and/or timely resolution of issues (e.g., noise, dust, property damage, water service interruptions, other concerns, etc.).
  • Preparing and participating in various constructionrelated internal/external meetings; and presenting on/supporting the resolution of ongoing community issues and concerns.
  • Conducting visits to residents, institutions, and businesses, as time allows, to ensure early identification of issues (e.g., noise, dust, property damage, water service interruptions, concerns, etc.) and helping to expedite their resolution.
  • Working to deescalate fervent issues that arise and use judgement to escalate to senior staff where necessary.
  • Visiting residents, institutions, and businesses in person and serving as a point of contact for any concerns or issues raised through the project hotline or in person.
  • Addressing queries in relation to construction timelines, possible impacts on residents' properties and working with residents on solutions that can help mitigate or remove any negative impacts.
  • Conducting site visits and providing coordination support in relation to finding resolutions to diverse community issues/concerns involving multiple contractors, City staff, 311, councilors, and other ongoing City projects in immediate areas.
  • Assessing complaints and determining where and when the issues should be addressed and by which party involved.
  • Attending preconstruction meetings and construction progress meetings as required for coordination purposes.
  • Presenting issues to construction teams and City staff, discuss solutions to ensure issues do not cause delays to construction, and following up frequently to ensure that issues are resolved as quickly as possible.
  • Preparing, maintaining, and distributing a monthly "Community Issues/Resolution Report" detailing all relevant details relating to community issues and concerns along with proper maintenance of various forms of evidence including documentation, photographs, drawings, etc.
  • Providing monthly updates to the project team, including detailed reports and status updates on issues encountered during construction.
  • Support the GHD design team in coordinating site visits involving diverse stakeholders to complete service investigations

Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:


  • Completion of postsecondary education in environmental, engineering or communications, or equivalent experience in community engagement and customer service.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Energetic and approachable personality as the first point of contact for this project.
  • Ability to mediate challenging situations to resolve issues with the public stakeholders, contractors, and clients in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Maintain a calm and professional demeanor while under duress.
