The University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI) is Canada's largest and foremost cardiovascular health centre dedicated to understanding, treating, and preventing heart disease.

Investigators have a unique array of initiatives and programmes, with a particular emphasis on innovative approaches to prevention (primary and secondary) and treatment of cardiovascular disease.


The Ottawa Model for Smoking Cessation (OMSC):

The Ottawa Model for Smoking Cessation (OMSC) is a world-renowned validated, evidence-based process that combines knowledge translation and organizational change practice to implement smoking cessation treatment and support as a part of routine care.

It is implemented in over 500 sites across Canada and supported over 500,000 people who smoke in their journey to quit or reduce.

The mission is to assist healthcare organizations to transform their clinical practices for the appropriate treatment of nicotine dependance through knowledge translation, implementation support, and quality evaluation.


Project description:


  • Implementation and evaluation of OMSC to support people dependent on nicotine to quit or reduce
  • Use of smartphone technology to support people who smoke to quit or reduce
  • Use of pharmacotherapy, including ecigarettes, to support people who smoke to quit or reduce

Position:

The researcher is expected to be present in Ottawa but may work remotely as agreed upon by their supervisor(s). Office space will be provided.

This fellowship offers the opportunity to gain and contribute knowledge to the area of nicotine, tobacco, and e-cigarettes.

This postdoctoral fellowship is ideally suited to an early-career post-doctoral fellow who wishes to pursue a career path as a Scientist.

Future academic opportunities are available for those demonstrating outstanding commitment and performance.

  • A Ph.
D. in Health Research Methodology, Epidemiology, Population Health, or similar from a recognized, accredited program.

  • Previous research experience within a team environment, demonstrating outstanding collegiality, professionalism, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
  • A strong understanding of clinical research design, research methodology and data analysis. Previous experience analyzing datasets.
  • Evidence of experience in preparation and publication of manuscripts; strong technical writing skills.
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, ReferenceManager, EndNote, SPSS, SAS, R, or other stats software).
  • Ability to take guided initiative and to work in an organized fashion within a fastpaced environment, including flexibility in shifting between independent and collaborative work.
  • Previous experience in research related to nicotine, tobacco, and/or ecigarettes is an asset.
