    We are looking for a Construction Project Coordinator to support our Real Property Planning and Management Branch in Ottawa. The Construction Project Coordinator would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

    The successful candidate must possess significant experience and knowledge in a variety of construction disciplines. The successful candidate will be exposed to a wide variety of buildings, including offices, laboratories and special use facilities (such as cleanrooms and wind tunnels) that offers an interesting work experience. As a Construction Project Coordinator you will represent the NRC, the building owner on the construction site and will be expected to be the eyes and ears and spokesperson for the Project Manager who is responsible for the project.

    The Construction Project Coordinator is expected to coordinate multiple projects and contracts simultaneously while ensuring that work is completed according to the tender documents and that industry best practices and all safety and building codes are respected. Due to the fast-paced working environment, the Construction Project Coordinator will need to have strong communication skills and must have experience working with contractors, consultants, clients.

    The projects range from renovations, restorations and alterations of NRC buildings and facilities to new construction and involve all construction trades and disciplines including civil, structural, architectural, mechanical and electrical. The project values can range from tens of thousands of dollars to millions of dollars depending on the complexity and size of the project being completed.

    Screening Criteria


    Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

    Education


    College diploma in Architectural, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or Structural Engineering Technology or a relevant trade license.

    A combination of education, training and extensive experience could be considered.

    Experience

    • Significant* and recent* experience related to the commercial or industrial building construction industry.
    • Significant* experience in coordinating the on-site activities of contractors on multi-trade projects.
    • Experience with all construction trades including the disciplines of civil, structural, architectural, mechanical and electrical.
    • Significant* experience with contract administration and management ensuring conformance to tender documents (drawings and specifications) for contractual compliance, due diligence, assessing the quality of the work, safety reviews.

    Significant is defined as: between two (2) and six (6) years of experience.

    * Recent is defined as: within the last two (2) years.

    ASSETS:

    • Experience coordinating construction contracts in the Federal Government environment would be considered an asset.

    Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

    Technical Competencies

    • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
    • Knowledge of construction practices and techniques and design and construction details, particularly of the architectural, civil, mechanical and electrical.
    • Knowledge of building codes and construction safety standards and practices.
    • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to confined space entry and fall protection.
    • Knowledge of and the ability to conduct required duties related to the Occupational Health and Safety Act for construction projects, including participation in incident reporting and investigation, health and safety meetings, etc.
    • Knowledge of the construction industry including legal aspects and owner/contractor/subcontractor relationships.
    • Ability to coordinate the work of construction contractors for building additions, renovations, equipment installation and commissioning.
    • Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and set priorities.

    Compensation


    From $58,445 to $80,040 per annum.
