The Assistant Manager, Surgical Sponsorships, will work with the Surgical Program, Human Resources and the external colleges for students participating in the Perioperative and Critical Care certification for the Post Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU).


Accountabilities:

  • Support the implementation of best/leading practices, quality documentation and accountability models
  • Monitor and respond in a timely manner to quality, safety, risk and other performance/outcome indicators
  • Promote and facilitate a safe and therapeutic environment in accordance with best practices for the provision of care and optimize performance to maximize scope of practice through the learning curve
  • Work collaboratively with the CSM and interprofessional team members to assess clinical and educational needs within the Surgical Program on an ongoing basis
  • Develops partnerships and leverages informationdriven and goaloriented processes in driving change and improvement
  • Work collaboratively with the clinical nurse educator, preceptors, college placement coordinators, program leaders and the program team to establish key dates and goals through the sponsorship program
  • Support agreed upon evaluation and outcome criteria to drive timely delivery of outputs; analysis of data, interpretation of data and provide feedback to the team on findings
  • Work collaboratively with the CSM and program director to identify gaps in processes, policies and procedures and support the sustainable delivery of excellent patientcentered care
  • Facilitate meetings between the sponsorship, novice nurses and the CSMs to discuss ongoing feedback of the sponsorship program and attends other internal/external meetings and huddles as appropriate
  • Coach, mentor, support, and facilitate the creation and maintenance of an environment that fosters our Osler values, creativity and professional judgment
  • Exercise prudence and vigilance in assisting the CSM in effective attendance management practice (e.g. identify attendance issues to CSM outside of process and procedures)
  • Identify issues and challenges; monitor trends requiring targeted interventions and change in practice patterns or processes
  • Proactively identify ongoing needs for operating room and PACU sponsorship in alignment with the sponsorship budget working collaboratively with the program director to explain variances to ensure cost effective resources
  • Provide valueadded point of care resources to ensure and optimize safe and effective patientcentered care
  • Support the CSM with the completion of Kronos
  • Coordinate appropriate orientation resources for students and new staff members
  • Review course learning outcomes, national competencies, and competency checklist
  • Develop a minimum of three learning goals that student nurse will complete in placement
  • Through daily logs, develop brief notes on achievements and learning needs for each student
  • Other duties may be required as assigned

Qualifications

  • Member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Operating room certification and minimum three years recent experience in an acute care setting or Bachelor's degree in nursing is required
  • Relevant Master's degree achieved or in progress is preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Experience in delivering adult educational programs
  • Managing multiple schedules
  • RNAO membership preferred
  • Demonstrated effective communication, team building, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and work collaboratively with all levels and members of the inter professional team
  • Demonstrated effective and innovative chang
