Duties and Responsibilities:


Reporting to both the Systems & Network Administrator, and the Information Technology Officer in the Dean of Science, the Computing Specialist provides technical computer support for instructional and research activities of the Department and of the Faculty, as well as its administrative units.

The position is concerned with the operational administration of the instructional laboratories, providing computer support, and maintenance of the research computational facilities.


As an integral part of the collaborative IT team within the Faculty of Science, the incumbent is also responsible for providing escalated and secondary frontline computer support to other academic units within the Faculty of Science and shared operational maintenance of research computing facilities in the Faculty of Science.


Qualifications:


The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

  • Must have experience and complete familiarity with Windows and Macintosh and with Ethernet hardware, installation and diagnostics.
  • Must also be experienced in maintaining, installing and repairing PC and Mac hardware.
  • Network experience with UNIX, familiarity with concepts of Linux are important assets.
  • Experienced with integrating PCs and Macs in a Unix/Linux serverbased environment.

Education and Experience:


The above is normally acquired through the completion of:

  • Four years relevant experience.
