Job Profile:
The successful applicant will be responsible and accountable for the administrative functions of the position working under the overall direction of the Labour Relations Manager and day-to-day supervision by the Labour Relations Coordinator.
Responsibilities / Duties:
To provide administrative support for the Labour Relations Department by:
- Providing general collective agreement administration;
- Proofreading, typesetting, and performing calculations related to collective agreements;
- Researching information related to collective agreements;
- Collecting information and documents related to labour relations;
- Entering collective agreement and contractor information in a computer database;
- Filing paper and electronic copies of labour relations information and documentation;
- Maintaining the Labour Relations database and filing system;
- Compiling documents in support of collective bargaining process;
- Responding to inquiries from IUOE Local 793 staff and members, contractors and the MLITSD;
- Verifying the currency of information and documents;
- Drafting correspondence for the Labour Relations Manager;
- Distributing information or materials as appropriate;
- Monitoring collective agreements to determine when notices to bargain are required;
- Open and process department mail;
- Provide relief for the legal desk when required.
- Providing advice and direction on labour relations policies and procedures;
- Locating relevant information in support of Area Office initiatives;
- Compiling documentation in support of negotiations or legal action;
- Reviewing documents to ensure that all the required information is included, current and pertinent.
- Providing general administrative and clerical support to the Labour Relations Manager;
- Providing general administrative and clerical support to the Legal Counsel and Labour Relations Coordinator as required;
- Cross training and providing coverage to the legal administrative desk;
- Assisting in the preparation of reports and presentations.
- Other general clerical duties, when required, as may be assigned by the Business Manager, Labour Relations Manager and/or the Human Resources Department.
Job Requirements:
- A post secondary formal education in Labour Relations, Industrial Relations, or equivalent relevant administrative experience;
- A paralegal license and/or experience as a legal administrative assistant would be considered an asset;
- Must have a strong aptitude for mathematical calculations, exhibit accuracy and thoroughness;
- Ability to interpret collective agreement language and perform necessary calculations;
- Strong calendar management and deadline tracking experience;
- Excellent comprehension, retention, and consistent logical thought processing skills;
- Protection of information and maintaining confidentiality is paramount;
- Must demonstrate a high standard of professional conduct, ethics, and reliability;
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills are required;
- Initiative to solve problems and the ability to work effectively under deadline situations;
- Capable of organizing job responsibilities and prioritizing assignments;
- Strives to grow professionally through continuous study and keeps alert to current practices concerning this position;
- Copes successfully with onthejob demands and maintains personal and professional composure in stressful situations;
- Ability to work both independently and as a team player;
- Demonstrates an innovative approach to the work;

$1,377.98 per week
