The Maintenance Supervisor supervises the activities of technicians and contractors for inspections,

maintenance, repairs and new installations of railway systems. The Supervisor also schedules and co-ordinates

special projects, ensuring that priority is given to failures affecting service, and checks that work carried out is

done according to specification, quality, and safety requirements.


Safety critical position - This position is safety critical. Fitness for duty is a requirement of the position.


How will you contribute to the team?

  • Supervise service contractors' and technicians' work and ensure the work is performed according to safe work plans, schedule and is completed to required standards.
  • Ensure all necessary tools and materials for scheduled maintenance requirements and special projects are available in stock and kitted for work assignments.
  • Prepare work schedules and assign special projects and repairs by priority on a daily basis.
  • Manage projects adhering to work schedules and budgets.
  • Respond to emergency incidents day or night and prepare reports.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, safe work practices and coordinate monthly departmental safety meetings.
  • Assist with the implementation of policies, procedures and programs, both routine and emergency, relating to scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, repair and new installations of railway systems and provide feedback on effectiveness.
  • Manages performance and competency levels of team.
  • Participates in incident investigations and implements necessary corrective actions as required.
  • Develops and delivers various onthejob and classroom training sessions.
  • Performs relief duties for the Manager as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

_ Safety responsibilities - _

  • Responsible for ensuring safe working practices are adopted in the maintenance of equipment and work performed.
  • Ensuring that the team is provided with, and is correctly using, personal protective equipment and clothing.
  • Ensuring that technical staff and contractors under their responsibility are aware of the safety procedures for working on the track.
  • Ensuring that the guideway is safe for the operation of trains.
  • Ensuring that the safety training for the team is regularly refreshed and reassessed.
  • Practicing personal safety when on or about the guideway.
  • Ensuring that the requirements of the Safety Management System are met with respect to the reporting of accidents and incidents on the railway.
  • Ensuring that maintenance facilities and equipment are correctly maintained and fit for use.

What will you contribute?

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a related field, or engineer classification from an accredited university, or 8 years experience maintaining railway equipment or equivalent experience.
  • 3 years experience as a Track Supervisor or Assistant Track Supervisor.
  • A combination of education and experience may also be considered.

_ Required - _

  • Prioritization of workload to minimize asset and equipment failures, and completion of planned scheduled work.
  • Able to respond to callouts 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and work shifts.
  • Must be able to work night shifts This role is expected to work 50% night shift.
  • Must be able to work in an outdoor night environment year round.

  • Strong leader and motivator of the maintenance team to consistently deliver objectives.
  • An achiever with track record of high performance of a maintenance team in meeting the program objectives
- set in accordance with the daily and Annual Maintenance Plan, and the prioritization of corrective works.

  • Experience managing a unionized workforce. REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
  • Valid class 5 BC drivers license.

Environmental aspects - This role has Significant Environmental Aspects associated with it which may include handling of and exposure to Batteries used in vehicles, stations, substations and generators and from time-to-time working with other cleaning chemicals or hazardous products.
