Position Summary:


We are Methanex:

the world's largest producer and supplier of methanol to major international markets in North America, Asia Pacific, Europe and South America, with our corporate head office located in Vancouver, BC.


Working under the guidance of the Director, Global Communications, this position is responsible for developing and executing internal and external communications strategies and plans across Methanex globally.

This role partners with assigned functions ranging from marketing & logistics (i.e. Market Development), corporate functions (i.e. Human Resources, Sustainability, IT, Responsible Care), and Manufacturing.

The Manager works closely with these internal partners, and other partners, to identify, evaluate, recommend, and develop a communications strategy that identifies high value needs, implications and risks.

This position provides strategic communications guidance and global perspective to facilitate decision making that builds and protects the company's reputation and maximizes value.


Position Responsibilities:


Business Partner (60%)

  • Provides proactive communication counsel to assigned business functions
  • Identify, influence, evaluate, develop and execute a wide variety of strategic internal and external communication initiatives for assigned business functions, in support of the company's market objectives and vision to differentiate and create value with stakeholders (i.e. customers, employees, business/JV partners, media). Includes conducting stakeholder analyses to evaluate impact with recommendation for mitigation.
  • Global Communications project lead and partner for communications related to strategic initiatives.

Communications Strategy Development and Execution (40%)

  • Recommends, identifies impactful communication strategies that aligns Methanex's value proposition with key stakeholders
  • Develops and manages plans that support the Global Communications Strategy. Final approval for strategy is by the Director, Global Communications
  • Provides input to the annual budgeting process and ongoing management of budget expenditures related to this position.

Position Qualifications:


Education and/or Professional Designation

  • Holds a university degree in communications or a university degree along with a postgraduate certificate in corporate communications or public relations.

Experience and Technical Skills/Knowledge

  • At least 810 years experience in communications, public relations
  • Have a business/management orientation and an understanding of the commodity or energy industry
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with a variety of functions and with individuals at various levels within the organization, including senior leaders
  • Be able to write in a clear, concise journalistic manner
  • Have experience in supporting company crises and issues management at a global level
  • Be knowledgeable with traditional communications vehicles as well as new technologies and leading edge communications practices, including digital media
  • Be knowledgeable about, and experienced in, working with the media
  • Possess strong presentation skills/public speaking experience
  • Government (federal, provincial, municipal) and public policy experience is an asset
