Description

Under the general direction of the Drafting and Graphics Supervisor, the Technical Assistant updates and maintains technical information within the Department's various information systems such as the Geographic Information System (GIS), and the Engineering Drawing Management Application (EDMA).


As the _Technical Assistant_
_ _you will**:

  • Revise existing customer water and sewer service data in the Department's GIS.
  • Add new customer water and sewer services to the Department's GIS.
  • Enter new engineering record drawings into EDMA.
  • Prepare existing engineering record drawings for archiving with Winnipeg Archives.
  • Respond to requests for engineering record drawing information.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the position as assigned.

Your education and qualifications include:


  • Must be a graduate in Civil Engineering Technology (Technologist Diploma in Municipal, Environmental, or Geomatics Technology preferred) from a recognized Institute of Technology, such as Red River College.
  • Must be eligible for membership in C.T.T.A.M. (Certified Technicians & Technologists Association of Manitoba) as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.).
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of GIS software.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of CAD equipment and software, specifically AutoCAD.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of Microsoft Office software, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications, legal descriptions and plans.
  • Ability to understand and execute verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to carry out project work as directed and to prepare or complete required reports and records.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Standard.

Conditions of employment:


  • The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver's Licence.
