Temporary, Part-time (September 1, 2023 to April 30, 2024; 0.6 FTE)

General Information


The locum Medical Microbiologist reports to the Medical Director and Head, Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, or designate, and provides various medical microbiology and infection control services within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at BC Children's Hospital and BC Women's Hospital + Health Centre.

The Department provides the province's pediatric and obstetric populations with tertiary and quaternary laboratory care.

The Division is responsible for providing academic pediatric and maternal-fetal medicine diagnostic service for the province of BC, with a focus on rapid bacteriology and virology testing, including an extensive menu of microbiological nucleic acid amplification tests.

Infection control coverage is also provided for all PHSA agencies.


Specific Accountabilities

Medical Services

  • Provide medical microbiology and infection control services, including participation in the oncall roster.

Collaboration and Consultation

  • Build relationships and provide prompt and expert consultative services to physicians and other health care providers.
  • Participate in daily meetings with Pediatric Infectious Diseases, Infection Control and the Antimicrobial Stewardship Pharmacist.
  • Actively engage in academic teaching and research

Qualifications


This position requires a Medical Doctor degree with current certification in Medical Microbiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent.
