Position Summary

  • The role of the Material Demand Planner is to interface with the various internal and external stakeholders responsible for planning, scheduling, and maintaining the material requirements for Work Periods and rectification of deficiencies. One of the primary responsibilities of this role is to identify material demand based on maintenance schedules and coordinate the activities from demand identification to purchase requisition. This includes working closely with the service delivery department, engineering department, project management office, and procurement department to ensure that all necessary materials are obtained in a timely and efficient manner. A key part of this role is ensuring that the required materials are in stock for all required maintenance. _

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Conducting Material Resource Planning activities, including establishing and maintaining the Bill of Materials (BoM) for all identified work items;
  • Reporting on inventory levels and the overall inventory status as it pertains to Work Periods and corrective maintenance;
  • Support the Technical Material Expeditor regarding collaborating with internal and external teams to ensure that all material is obtained to support work by the required deadlines;
  • Raising requisitions for material and equipment required to support defined maintenance activities;
  • Creating material demands in the Thales and customer ERP system;
  • Prioritizing, Tracking and updating material reservations to support work items;
  • Updating Department of National Defence (DND) Defence Resource Management Information System (DRMIS) to align with Thales ERP system for material movement and status;
  • Support the Technical Material Expeditor regarding the tracking of material availability, delivery dates and advising on impact to schedule or in progress work item;
  • Participating in regular team meetings, advising on material status, and recommending remedial action for any potential issues;
  • Generating exception reports and providing regular updates on material status to internal and external stakeholders;
  • Completing assigned tasks within time and cost constraints to meet contracted Key Performance Indicator (KPI) requirements within the program in accordance with Thales policy; and
  • Other duties as assigned by Management

  • Comply with and ensure compliance of others to all relevant HS&E legislative requirements, policies, procedures and framework with the intent of preventing or minimizing accidental exposures to self, colleagues, visitors and/or the environment.
  • Promote Thales's Health, Safety and Environmental programs by demonstrating HS&E Leadership in a professional and supportive manner.

Key Requirements

  • Minimum 35 years' experience working within the Military or a Defence Contract or project desirable;
  • Excellent communication and people skills, adept at interfacing between multiple internal/external stakeholders;
  • Strong Analytical Skills and the ability to make datadriven decisions;
  • Thorough understanding of maintenance schedules, including working with bill of materials (BOM);
  • Strong computer literacy, with proven experience with Microsoft Office Suite essential;
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to balance multiple priorities;
  • Experience with the Defence Resource Management Information System (DRMIS) an asset;
  • Previous experience working with IBM Maximo, SAP or other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system;
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to multitask and work autonomously;
  • Experience working within procurement, or Supply Chain & Warehousing environments; and
  • Open minded and able to listen; share ideas while bringing added value / capturing innovation.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or certificate/diploma in Supply Chain Management and/or equivalent experience; and
  • Defense Industry experience an asset.

Specific need:


  • Required to access and work in DND facilities and therefore must comply with Federal facility health regulations
  • Requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under the Canadian Export Control List, the ITAR or the EAR
  • Requires a positive Controlled Goods assessment as you will have direct access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program
  • Required to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance at the NATO Secret Level
