CASUAL INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT, OLSON CENTRE FOR HEALTH SIMULATION

FACULTY OF HEALTH STUDIES


NorQuesters are difference makers and we're searching for someone who can start small and think BIG in the support of our Olson Centre for Health Simulation as a Casual Instructional Assistant to support our learners in using simulation to improve patient safety, quality of care, health care, and human services education.


Reporting to the Manager, Olson Centre for Health Simulation, the Instructional Assistant provides interdisciplinary instructional assistant support including being responsible for both technical simulation support and facilitation and evaluation of simulation scenarios, development of simulation learning materials using appropriate technologies, and maintaining the overall simulation centre which can include supplies and technology equipment such as the manikin, virtual reality, or camera equipment.


The Instructional Assistants hired will be supporting an innovative Simulation Replacing Clinical Practicum project that uses simulation to replace traditional clinical practicums hours in the Practical Nurse Program.

It would entail learning best practice simulation facilitating and debriefing using a variety of innovative technology that includes high fidelity manikins and virtual reality.

While this is a casual position, we are looking for individuals who can commit up to near full-time hours during this innovative project.

The Olson Center will provide thorough training in all aspects of simulation including the technology. This is a great opportunity to have current digital and technology training related to healthcare training.


HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Participate in the development, evaluation, facilitation, and debriefing of interdisciplinary simulationbased learning experiences.
  • Facilitate safe and confidential learning that supports reflective practices.
  • Assist and collaborate with faculty regarding lab set ups, equipment trouble shooting, and the utilization of simulation technology, at both our Edmonton and, at times, our Wetaskiwin campuses.
  • Demonstrate required knowledge, understanding, and support related to specific interdisciplinary scenarios used in simulation sessions.
  • Assist in student lab supervision, scheduling, and timetabling of lab usage.
  • Provide feedback to students on their performance according to scenario goals and related outcomes, providing updates to Olson staff.
  • Work with students on areas identified by the team as needing improvement.
  • Attend team meetings related to the simulation lab functioning and maintenance.
  • Provide support in FHS interprofessional events and learning activities, as a member of the FHS interprofessional Task Team.
  • Order and maintain inventory control of instructional resources, keep lab organized, and ensure equipment is functional (e.g. simulation manikins, audiovisual/ technical equipment, and lab supports and supplies).
  • Provide basic technical assistance for equipment and technologies including basic trouble shooting and maintenance.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Education in a related health field (licensed practical nurse) with diploma.
  • Associated registration in good standing.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check within the last 30 days.
  • 3+ years' experience in a discipline related role acute, longterm care, community, or pharmacy setting.
  • Experience in an interdisciplinary team setting.
  • Experience in an educational setting, facilitation, and instructional support, is an asset.

  • Some flexibility related to hours of work to meet the Divisional demands for ongoing simulated based learning experiences (may include weekends or evening hours).

SALARY:
$28.66-$37.24 reflective of what you bring AKA your education and experience. This is a casual opportunity which includes 11.2% in lieu of vacation and benefits.
