The Supervisor, Shelter and Respite Services is required to work Monday - Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

Reporting to Manager, Shelter and Respite Services, the Supervisor, Shelter and Respite Services is responsible for providing supervisory and operational support for the team and the day-to-day operations of their assigned portfolio.

They will also be responsible for creating a safe and supportive environment for all clients and staff working in the department.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, coordinate, direct and monitor the effective of all operational activities of the assigned portfolio.
  • Participate in and lead committees and task groups as required.
  • Provide input on the development of the annual operating plan for the department as required.
  • Support and participate in projects in area of responsibility and provide status reports to direct manager.
  • Support developing monthly schedules for the Shelter & Respite Services department.
  • Assist with oncall duties on a rotational basis.
  • Act in a leadership capacity in the development of community partnerships with other service providers and other community agencies to address issues of service delivery and policy development.
  • Seek opportunities to ensure a participative working relationship with funders.
  • Seek opportunities to be involved in and contribute to Shelter and Housing Networks in the Community and the City of Toronto.
  • Participate in the development of the annual department budget.
  • Adhere the Expenditure and Accounting systems outlined by the Finance Department.
  • Oversee the effective and efficient procurement and supply control procedures in assigned portfolio.
  • Manage the payroll responsibilities for assigned portfolios.
  • Manage property management issues.

People and Culture

  • Engage with People and Culture department for recruitment, orientation and for all labour relations matters for employees in the assigned portfolio.
  • Address and manage all employee performance and behavioural issues in a timely manner within Collective Agreement timelines.
  • Supervise, coach and mentor employees in the department.
  • Establish clear goal setting with department employees through annual performance evaluations and outline expected outcomes and time frames against which performance will be reviewed.
  • Manage disciplinary actions within the department in accordance with process and timelines set out in the collective agreement.
  • Consistently applies terms of the collective agreement within the department.
  • Ensure that all employees within the department understand WSIB claim process and importance of return to work' measures to avoid lost time claims.
  • Monitor all active WSIB claims within the department and ensure ongoing efforts are made to facilitate early return to work.

Organizational Accountability

  • Work collaboratively with other Dixon Hall staff and departments and volunteers.
  • Operate in an effective, efficient and client focused manner to achieve the best outcomes for clients.
  • Ensure adherence to all aspects of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Fire Code.
  • Complete workplace incidents/injuries reports as needed.
  • Provide support to Occupational Health & Safety Committee to ensure it meets all legislative requirements.
  • Oversee the implementation of fire and emergency drill procedures and reviews reports to ensure follow up is completed as required.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Social Worker, or Social Services Community College Diploma, or related degree/diploma required.
  • Emergency First/Aid CPR certification preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years supervisory experience or related experience.
  • Previous experience working with people experiencing homelessness or who have challenges in obtaining and maintaining housing.
  • Management experience in a unionized environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated crisis intervention, deescalation, counseling, conflict resolution, and advocacy skills.
  • Knowledge of the political, structural, and sociological reasons for homelessness and poverty in the City of Toronto.
  • Effective at building good interpersonal relationships; ability to be flexible and patient when interacting with employees, clients, peers, and volunteers.
