IO's Development Enterprise Team engages new partners in new types of partnerships to promote the development and strategic management of publicly-owned assets.
The team develops commercial solutions, executes procurements, and manages assets across new asset classes and infrastructure sectors, including subways, transit-oriented development, and long-term care facilities.
Infrastructure Ontario's Development division advances commercial solutions, executes procurements, and manages asset classes across various infrastructure sectors, including transit-oriented development, long-term care, attainable & affordable housing, and landmark provincial destinations.
The Development division consists of three Departments:
Landmark Projects (LP), Social Purpose Projects (SPP) and Transit Oriented Communities (TOC).
Mandates for the LP and SPP teams are as follows:
Landmark Projects
- To transform unique provincial land and building assets into highly impactful and sustainable developments delivering both public policy priorities and commercial benefits by:_
o Supporting the Province in redeveloping Ontario Place, including selection and negotiations with private-sector development partners, leading the site-wide OPA/ZBA Planning Application, leading a site-wide Category C Environmental Assessment, managing public, stakeholder & Indigenous consultation and design of the overall Ontario Place site public realm.
o Operating as a prime developer and manages a suite of technical advisors to help advance the work and bring government's vision for these unique real estate opportunities to fruition.
Social Purpose Projects:
- To leverage surplus provincial lands for the development of key social priorities, including longterm care, affordable/attainable housing, and other community amenities by: _
o Supporting the Province in the disposition of surplus provincial sites for delivery of Attainable & Affordable Housing and Long-Term Care, including site feasibility analysis, stakeholder engagement, site preparation, site marketing/developer procurement, contract negotiation & execution, transaction closing and post-closing oversight.
What You Will Do:
- Landmark Projects:
- Support in the daytoday functions of managing the planning processes and technical workstreams, including coordination with various consultants and internal technical teams
- Review of deliverables (e.g. draft reports, presentation slides, communications products) provided to LP by internal and external advisors
- Support Senior Advisors and Directors in managing client feedback and updating presentation decks, technical memos, and strategy documents
- Support in information and document control, including design graphics, maps, and concept plans
- Work collaboratively with internal IO departments (i.e., Environmental, Project Delivery) and support relationship building with client ministries. Daytoday project management, including setup and management activities (e.g., work / resource planning, budgeting, reporting)
- **Social Purpose Projects**:
- Participate in conversations with and present to clients and other stakeholders
- Review and quality control of deliverables provided to SPP by internal & external advisors
- Analyze data, and prepare concise reports, decks, and briefing notes as determined by project requirements
- Coordinating meetings and relationship management of various internal and external stakeholders, including preparation of meeting agendas, meeting materials and any adhoc project requests
- Project management, documentation, and ongoing monitoring of project workplans and schedules
- Contribute to formulation of site feasibility/business case analysis, transaction structuring, and disposition strategy
- Research projects related to areas of focus (primarily housing & longterm care)
Who We're Looking For:
- Passion for public sector/publicprivate real estate development
- Interested in working on largescale, multidisciplinary, crossfunctional teams to deliver complex and politically sensitive projects.
- Masters/Graduate level in Engineering, Architecture, Business Administration (MBA included), Urban Planning, or any related program. Undergraduates in their 3rd or 4th (final year) with a strong academic background and relevant experience (e.g., coop placements, studios, extracurriculars) will also be considered
- Previous industry experience in real estate development, urban planning, real estate finance/commercial transactions, architecture, engineering, or any related program will be considered an asset
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills with high attention to detail and the ability to synthesize information while managing multiple tasks in a dynamic environment
